" Nothing special happened"

-----

That's the problem. It's par for the course over there. I wonder what would happen if the final is played between 2 African countries.

Were any other black players abused last night?

African and black are two different things by the way.

Mrmotimer, of course there different doesnt change the fact the majority of africa is black though, hence why he used that example.

I don't know, but does it matter?
The only other player of African descent on the pitch though was Fernandinho x

Suso - isn't that just stereotyping?

It is an important difference when you look at other arguments in football. Abuse for being from a continent, country (Ivory Coast, Germany, Wales), region (heard many anti-northern chants) is often considered less bad than abuse for being a particular race.

What has really annoyed me about this one is that UEFA are doing all these things to emphasis their anti racism campaign

The "no racism" ad at half time with all the players
The banner that the players had to pass down the line of players before kick off (which was seriously awkward)

But last night the ref failed to follow the procedures in place for racism being reported and now this lad comes out with there was "nothing special" and denies the whole thing.

Makes me sick.

Green Devil - agreed - useless!

MrMortimer - agreed - useless - depressing.

Funny that Sky reported it from the pitchside before it was clear what Yaya and Sergio were complaining to the ref about

CSKA have come out and said it was just booing... was it clearly monkey chants? I didn't see the game.

It's not a great video to be honest, but a few bursts of 'ooh ooh ooh' can be heard by what sounds like a significant proportion of the crowd x

Ooh ooh ooh...

It might be difficult to prove it as racist then unless they get video of people gesticulating too.
If CSKA fight it and win it would be a disaster for UEFA!

The clip does show that it was the Sky pitchside reporter who put this in the public domain and he then later followed it up with loaded questions to Yaya at the end of the match

MrMortimer - gesticulating is not necessary to prove racism, if it was, it would give racists the cover they needed to make monkey chants without fear of prosecution. Surely the monkey chants is enough? x

X - Not seen the video yet, when I read you saying that there was "ooh ooh ooh" I read that as rhyming with "boo boo boo".
If it is anything similar to the noise of a boo it will be difficult to prove it was racist (especially as other black players weren't booed) so gesticulation may be needed.
If it is like monkey chants then obviously gesticulation wouldn't be needed.
As I say, not seen the video yet.

I would hate for UEFA to have to back down over something like this, it could do much more harm than good!

Peeps don't chant 'boo boo boo' though a 'boo' is an extended 'booooooo' and that's universal throughout Europe... why are you trying to find excuses for them? x

posted on 25/10/13

X - don't get me wrong, not trying to find excuses - I am genuinely concerned as to the fallout if UEFA had to back down.

If CSKA did take their case to court would UEFA be able to prove it was racist rather than people booing?

If it;s clear then there's no problem - but you know what lawyers can do!
