Winning is the name of the game no?
No...............................Winning in style the Nicholson mantra is the name of the game!!
By the way I am not complaining about the result, I think teams that have little intention of playing good football deserve nothing!
Take today, we had 66% of possession and had to rely on an "iffy" penalty to win.
------------------------------------------------------
Lightning does strike twice then.
That aside, 'Blanch' is correct........................it's all about winning at the end of the day regardless of how you do it.
i read in the week that a clean sheet is worth in average 2.5 points per game, whereas a goal is worth on average 1.5 points per game.... explains why lots of teams look to set up
It's not Chelsea. Managers became smarter with more foreign managers coming in. The Italians were dominating with it for a while in the early 90s. You could say both Benitez at Liverpool and Mourinho in his first stint at Chelsea, as well as Mancini at City and Moyes at United think defence first.
Teams have seen we struggle to break them down if they park the bus and figure its their best chance of getting a point away from home. I can't see that changing anytime soon so we need to learn how to get through them.
We are set up that way greaves, keep possession passing around the edge of their box. If we were more direct we would no doubt score more but also concede more. We are sacrificing our principles of attacking and stylish football with this manager for a more robust possession game.
I think one way to approach it should be playing two up front & wait for it........................................I think the payer to partner Soldado up front should be Ade. He gives us a different option, can score & also set people up. 4-4-2 at home please AVB!
we should try 4-4-2 v hull this week
Pretty simple isn't it. Go to Spurs and play open attacking football and get smashed 4/5 nil. Or try to hold out for a draw and snatch something on the break. Lose 1-0 nobody cares as they were expecting it. Win or draw and its a big point/s gained. Losing 4-5 nil against a big team and people start questioning the manager whereas 1-0 is okay. Common sense to do this.
Spurs are three for the taking, looking forward to next week.
Big team my ass!
Why are managers considered more 'tactical' the more defensive they play?
