we generally cruise through qualifying, then go out against the first decent team we face (iceland being the exception rather than the rule).
don't think we're especially mentally weak, we're simply not as good as the top teams in world football.

True. Players think that they're better than they actually are. Also, they lack fighting spirit that never die attitude sometimes they show for their clubs.

Don't think you understand my point.
As much as he has managed all of them great United players you've mentioned, the fact that he has got the same level of performance, quality and silverware out of players like the United flops that have bee mentioned shows a manager that gets the best out of his team.
I'm not attempting to compare Ferguson to Southgate but I'm saying England need a manager of that mould that can get the best 25 man squad with players all suited to a system where they are most comfortable.

but i wouldn't judge southgate after 5 matches any more than i would have judged SAF after 5 matches.

Don't know why you aren't adding Cahill. It was his error for Scotland's first goal by letting it bounce and then the high boot. If he went and met the ball initially, that incident and then goal would have been prevented.
