They should get Poch for the rebuild, keep Coutinho too. They have some great players but it needs big changes that may take time. With or without Messi. Not sure Xaxi will be the right man tbh.

Barca are not manageable till Messi retires.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I disagree but it would be an elite few who could manage them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really only Zidane could manage Madrid at the end. No one will be bigger than Messi. Its an impossible job for any manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Xavi would be fine there given Messi respects him greatly.

But who the feck was the fella managing them tonight, how does he command respect

posted on 14/8/20

Barca need replacements in their defense firstly. You cant win anything if you play with that defense in Europe.

You just highlighted the problem. "Messi respects him". You see its still about Messi. Can you imagine what will happen the first time Xavi says something that Messi doesn't agree with in the dressing room?

Defence is poor but the coaching is a big problem with that as well. Some very basic stuff tonight they just were not doing.

Elsewhere early on they got it out wide a few times and got behind, fifteen minutes in they stopped doing it, why?

Bayern press real high so why keep knocking it to a defender on the edge of the box inviting pressure again and again?

Two simple in game changes right there would have kept it closer.

To be fair i have no idea if Messi is a problem behind the scenes, can't say i have heard that he is. Others could be though, Vidal for one i suspect has a chip on his shoulder.

You don't need to be bigger than Messi. In fact considering Messi is arguably the biggest star in the game (the only other argument can be made for Ronaldo) it's actually not possible anyway.

In reality they've bought badly and employed several questionable managers/coaches over a significant period of time, that'll lead to a decline.

At 5-2 Barca's defense capitulate completely.

Some miss class, attidute and ability. They arent at the races.

Wonder if Vidal regrets his comments the other day

Its slightly different with C.Ronaldo. He was bought by Madrid. On the hand Messi is a Barca youth player. One club man. That elevates him to a different status with the fans. Thats hugely problematical for any manager who must have complete power of the players.

Messi is a winner like Ronaldo is.

He said long ago in the media what is wrong with Barca.

Barca's transfers the last few years werent working. They bought offensively but not defensively.

They over relying on Messi doing the business.

First time in 13 years Barcelona finish the season without any trophy.

The problem with Barça is we have no money. We pay really high wages to two or three players and then try to fill the team with average, low wage players who come for the prestige. These players are generally not of the right quality. Our board seem incapable of signing players, hence the high turnaround of players in the squad. The last two coaches have also not tried to stick to the style of football the club has played for many years now.

So we have ageing, astronomically paid stars, surrounded by players who are not good enough to play for Barça and a useless board. Recipe for disaster.

They’ve bought badly all over the pitch for years. Messi and Suarez have been carrying them. The team lacks quality, balance and a top coach.

Exactly this!

It’s nothing to do with Messi when a coach sets up a midfield as badly as that. Vidal and Roberto ended up doing neither of the things that could have been beneficial.

Shame as the first twenty minutes, they were exposing Bayern’s high line quite a lot.

La Masia hasn't produced for a while either.

They’ve spent a quarter of a billion pounds on Griezmann and Coutinho. And the latter came on and stuffed two goals against them.

That is what I am saying. They are desperate to get rid of Coutinho for example and offer him all over Europe.

Barcelona made some terrible mistakes in the transfer market in recent years. That hold them back now. They invested hundreds of millions offensively but havent done anything in defense. On that level in Europe you can't compete with a schoolboy defense and rely on one player.

Exactly.....no one remembers that after that result now.

You know you are in big trouble if you cant expose a defense playing Boateng as a CB

What are the chances of UEFA changing the rules so that loanees can't play against their parent club in Europe now?

It is the consequence of many years of decay. Nobody has been intelligent enough to identify what is happening.

It's embarrassing. Barcelona changed football. That heritage has been thrown in the bin.

Barcelona is so political and the players run the show. "

He was just scared to call out Messi specifically. Its an open secret.
