Spain should have brought traore on as planned before the equaliser. Poor from Enrique, they got away with it in pens vs swiss should have gone all out for the win before pens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As if that turbo Ford Focus was ever gonna do anything
Good game, could work in the finalist’s favour that Italy have had two games go to extra time (provided tomorrow’s game is done in normal time!).
It looked to me like Spain were growing into the tournament, Italy were flagging a bit by the end of that game and were lucky to hold on.

Adama Traore is very unproductive but his direct running can cause panic. You don't want to be facing him in extra time - especially when you have the likes of Chiellini in defense.

They have plenty of rest until Sunday so not really a factor
Spain midfield owned Italy's but didn't have anyone up front to create and put the ball in the back of the net.
Verrati and jorghino V Rice and Phillips
Italians will dominate on paper

Italys.midfield is not built to dominate top teams, its aim is the transition to get it to the front 3 as quickly as possible which they do great

I appreciate that. Think they previewed this before the match. However spain nullified them and busquets ran the show.
Against england or specifically rice and Phillips I see verrati and jorghino running the show.
Again though gotta get past Denmark which isn't a gimme

Spain deserved to win that. Have to sort their forward line out. They've lacked a top class striker since David Villa's prime - even in their glory days when they started playing with a "false nine", but still won Euro 2012.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
whats your actual point?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That they've not had a top class striker since Villa. What other point are you looking for?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet you acknowledged they won the Euros with a false 9 so why would they need a top striker at all ?
Because this team is not nearly as good at keeping clean sheets.

I actually think calling Traore unproductive is a little unfair. He created a lot of chances last season, but most of them were fluffed by our attackers. I think we was very unlucky not to get many assists. He was also crossing the ball in a team that would only have one player in the box alot of the time.
His biggest weakness is actually his off the ball movement and slowing the game down before going on one of his runs. His final product is not as bad as people make out.
His end product clearly improved, its his workrate and going to a standstill before taking anyone on he doesnt take the ball on the move.
Either way he would have caused mayhem to that tired old italian back line, Olmo was ripping them to bits and he started the game too.
Yet you acknowledged they won the Euros with a false 9 so why would they need a top striker at all ?

Because this team doesn't have Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Alonso, Silva, Fabregas, Ramos, Pique, Alba etc at or close to their peaks. Isn't that obvious enough? Just because a special team did it doesn't mean this particular team would do it.
Sucky old Spain wasted lots of chances. I don't like Italy. I think they can beat England if they get to the final
Even as fantastic as that Spain squad was, who tried to pass everyone to death, they got a lot of criticism that whole tournament for not scoring or creating enough. But ended up surprising everyone in the final with a vintage performance.
That Spain team’s ability to defend was ridiculous. Obviously the team changed between 08-12 but they conceded six goals across all three competitions, and none in any of the knock out games. Spain have conceded six in this tournament alone, including five in the knockout stages.

Italy peaked in the early group games against weak oppo and have laboured in the KO games. England had a harder group - Croatia and CZ are good technical opponents and Scotland will inevitably raise their game for a home nations derby, but have slowly increased in potency as the tournament has progressed and are arguably peaking at the right time.
Looking at it objectively, I see no reason why England should not win the tournament from here on. They have the best squad and have circumstance and home advantage on their side.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Switzerland are better than any of the opposition England had in their group (yes, they're better than Croatia). I've seen some revisionism from those making out that England had a tough group. Any of the top sides in this Euros would have been delighted to get England's group.

Yeah, Del Bosque basically defended by keeping the ball interminably. But that Spain team were also a little more physically robust than this current side. Especially the defense with Ramos and Pique, and Busquets and Alonso in midfield. You never feared that they'd be physically overwhelmed.

Switzerland are on par with Croatia, not markedly better. No revisionism from me, always had my doubts about England getting out of that group, as it transpires they’ve made the semi without conceding a goal.
If you have such an issue with England, why do you purport to support an English PL team you facking plastic mug.
