I think the biggest contribution in why England won is because of the investment and restructuring the womens game had in England.
The US used to be able to pull the talent for the womens domestic league, but England has become an attractive league for women.

France and Spain is putting a lot of investment

They’re ranked #1 at the moment.
England should be #2 after today because Germany was #2 entering the final.

What about soccer though? USA is terrible at that

Die Schiedsrichterin hat in den letzten 90 Minuten mehr für England getan als Boris Johnson in seiner gesamten Amtszeit. #GERENG
The ref has done more for England in the 90 minutes than Boris Johnson in his whole ministry.

The English league attracts has the best depth of talent around these days, so in a sport where the majority of international players aren't full professionals, that's going to be a massive advantage going forward. Spain and France who haven't won anything on the international stage seem to also be emerging as powerhouses and were unlucky with a couple of key injuries coming into the tournament to their best players. Germany themselves could probably have done with Alexandra Popp today who's their biggest threat.
