Probably was a penalty, but could of been given, could of not- just one of those

Man united will always be headline news when they do something wrong, and a side note when it happens to them.

That's the problem of being the biggest, everyone wants you to fail.

Surprised the incident wasn't shown tbh, but media agenda....really?

Food for thought...in the very same Southampton game you mentioned, the stats at the end of the highlights said Southampton had more shots both on and off target in that game, yet they showed probably 10 United highlights compared to maybe 2 from the Saints....

Make of that what you will

The only media agenda is to sell more papers.

They don't have an agenda for or against any club in particular.

Was an interesting decision from MOTD2 not to show one of about 3 genuine highlights from the first half. Didn't think it was a penalty, but compared to the one chelsea got and Stoke got this weekend it was nailed on.

Champers.... Even dreadful shots like Ramsey's 35 yarder that trickled into De Gea's hands was considered a shot on goal, but hardly worthy of a replay.

If you watch the highlights of England losing to Argentina in 1986 and then our loss to Germany in 2010, it's ludicrous how much more obsessed the commentators are about dodgy decisions.

To be fair Champers that's most likely because most of Southampton's shots were long distance efforts that trickled into De gea's arms - hardly highlight worthy. But your point is still valid.

However, I do find it extremely bizarre that the Rooney incident didn't even make it onto MOTD last night. When i went into the concourse yesterday at half time and saw a replay it looked stone wall to me. Perhaps bias, but to not even show it in the highlights seems bizarre to me especially when they bothered to show a corner that should have been a goal-kick.

The Rooney pen incident yesterday was a lot like the Mata one against Newcastle a week and a bit ago. The defending player seems to put a leg out and impede the attacker, easily enough for the player to trip and to go down, yet it is dismissed as not enough contact?

I understand when two players come together with their upper body, it can be dismissed as shoulder to shoulder, but when it involves the legs I can't see how it isn't a penalty.

When the incident happened in the Newcastle Chelsea match, they asked for the opinion of Mark Halsey. He dismissed the claim of a pen and said that there needed to be more contact...!?

Speaking of which, I don't really understand why they have him there. If the ref gets the decision right, he just agrees with the decision and doesn't offer anything else (like why maybe?). If the ref gets it wrong, he tries to make us understand why the ref got it wrong and never criticises the refereeing what-so-ever. Not liking BT Sport, but that's a whole other topic :/

I didn't watch the Southampton game live Ji, so I can only call it as I saw it, and with them having more shots on, shots off and more possession I was just surprised how the highlights balanced out. As you say, pea-rollers count as shots on, and I'm not too fussed about seeing those. There was one Fellaini effort shown that flew into the top tier of the Stretford End which did make me wonder who edits these matches sometimes.

A few of southampton's shots definitely weren't worth showing, they had one from fully 40 yards that went 20 yards wide. But still counts for the stats

Yeah fair play. It just seemed unusual at the time but like I say, I didn't see the full game, just the highlights then the (seemingly misleading) statistics

This ^^^^

so the question should be which will sell more papers/gain more viewers and then you stop worrying abut your own team. Yes its frustrating some days and I too have taken the seigem mentality view but stepping back you realise that the comment above sums it up perfectly...

It actually happens a fair tbh

When Berba went down against Liverpool, we actually had two other penatly appeals turned down in the game and one was completely stome wall

Neither were shown the the TV highlights

Rooney was clearly brought down on Sunday. I just don't see how a pen could be more stomewall tbh

Perhaps the word "agenda" was a bit over dramatic, maybe my article title should have been "dodgy decisions & media coverage".

If the challenge on rooney like incident happened to an Arsenal player we'll never hear the end of it. Media like to fuel the cliches and when evidenceis to the opposite, they just turn the blind eye

posted on 11/11/13

Chelsea got their penalty for only half the force that Rooney got! Was daylight robbery that Chelsea point.

I watched 80 minutes of the game but had to go out, southampton had like 10 shots after lol, man utd went very deep.

How else are they supposed to build their case for United winning by dodgy decisions.

Lets not forget we are the only ever premiership winners they decided to make a video off after we confirmed the title showing all the incorrect decisions we did have....
