People are already pretty passionate about it and it'll get intense next year, to the point where folk will start falling out big style over it, even within the same families.

I'm not really dreading it, as the NO campaign is running out of ideas.

Just found out this week the UK government won't give the SNP the needed blessing to open talks with the EU. Then they try and use the fact we cant give answers on what would happen with Scotland in the EU against us. Some union this......

Did anybody watch the Sturgeon/Carmichael debate? First round was pretty dull, but the second one had him begging for mercy - three times he asked the chair to step in and stop Sturgeon.

I think as time goes on, and more people realise that's the best Better Together have to offer, the more the vote will swing towards "Yes".

Neither side has any ideas. It's all just speculation from both sides, they're all just guessing.

And the there's the fact the people in charge of each campaign are politicians. None of those kants can be trusted.

Westcoast - has been a couple of instances where they've really been put on the spot about that sort of thing.

Iain Davidson (Labour MP for Glasgow SW) was effectively arguing for job losses in his constituency in the event of a Yes victory. Really cynical thing to do, shame the mainstream media didn't want to pick up on that...

I don't think the No campaign members are up to the job. None of them have the clout to make a valid and impassioned defence of the Union and I can't see any who will make me change my mind.

What I want is a debate between Cameron and Salmond and for me, whatever you think of Salmond, he would annihilate Cameron in a debate and the Prime Minister knows that.

Just saw Scotland is slightly outperforming England in schools. No doubt that's all you'll hear tomorrow from the SNP.

Wales are miles behind

I'm just gonna draw my cöck on my ballot next September.

Vote for Juke's tallywacker!

I'm most likely to vote Yes next year however my better half will be voting No so we're cancelling each other out.

To be fair to Cameron, he wouldn't stand a chance anyway. A London-born Eton-educated member of the Bullingdon Club isn't exactly going to go down well in Scotland. Could put him up against the corpse of Jimmy Saville & Cameron would still come off second best.

It is quite good gamesmanship by Salmond though. Cameron said he'll "fight for the Union with everything I've got" - but apparantly that doesn't extend to having a debate. Now of course every time he pipes up, Salmond will ask him to debate & he'll go back into his shell, knowing he'd get absolutely destroyed in a debate, but declining a debate is also seen as weaknes. He's in a no-win situation.

Juke - put your tallywhacker up for election (that's an "L" not an "R" in Edinburgh - it'll still likely do better than the Lib Dems.

It's better looking than most politicians, probably smells better too

And it always comes first

Like Sturgeon said the other night on newsnight, "190 countries have gained their independence since the end of the 2nd world war, I don't know of any that want to go back"

I can't see countries like Latvia, Estonia and Croatia wanting to go back to 'the good old days'

Do they really expect people to believe that we wont be allowed to be part of the EU

If Scotland was anywhere else in the world instead of on these Islands the UK would be fully behind us gaining our independence, feckin hypocrites..........

posted on 3/12/13

Ivan, you should have got a yes vote in as one of the vows

Talking about hypocrisy, I find it funny that they were fawning over the Spanish PM's opinion on Scotland & the EU. What are his opinions on Gibraltar again?

Was hilarious seeing the likes of the Daily Mail & Telegraph doing a snap U-turn & suddenly supporting what he says. Would love him to come out with a joint statement saying "Scotland would have to re-apply for the EU & Gibraltar belongs to Spain". They'd explode with the dichotomy.

Hobo, aye Salmond done that ages ago too. So Cameron is stumped. He got him on the Devomax vote too

westcoast

She actually refuses to talk about independence now whatsoever. What she doesn't think about is I'm the only driver in the house and she is highly unlikely to walk to the voting station.

The Daily Mail were all for pretty much invading Spain the other week over the Gibraltar issue

posted on 3/12/13

Same when Salmond went to China too Hobo, they got tore into him for wanting to trade with China, and guess where Cameron is this week...................
...............not seeing much about it though.

My wife is Irish, both her and her sister live in Scotland and are both yes voters so were 2 up there

Did I not see a British U-Boat appearing popping up just off Gibraltar

My old boy is English but has been a registered voter up here for over 30years.. Can he vote in thisindy referendum?

posted on 3/12/13

Aye, but that was different when Salmond went to China 'cause... err...

Ivan - interesting that you say she no longer wants to talk about it. Maybe an unfair generalisation, but from my experience Unionists tend to be less interested in the debate. Those that I do know who are interested in politics all plan to vote "Yes". Even the most stereotypical "my dad voted Labour" guy I know is leaning towards it.

Juke - If your permenant address is in Scotland & you're part of the electoral register, you can vote in it. Overseas troops can also join in. Doesn't matter where you were born, just as long as you live here.

Hobo, I've found that as well

posted on 3/12/13

Awrite wasn't sure.

I did see Alan Cummings bought himself a nice shiny new flat in Edinburgh just to find out he still couldn't vote in it

I don't know whether to abstain, I do have ambitions to return home later in life so I am unsure whether it is my place to involve myself in a decision that will implicate the people of Scotland either way.

Then again, something may arise where I cannot return home- such as if my children were dead against it- I've lived in Scotland since 1994 and have never voted for anything, I'm not even sure what the rules are for other elections and that?

posted on 3/12/13

Just vote for the hell of it.

It's what most of us are doing

posted on 3/12/13

Henrik - are you registered? You'll need to sort that first of all.

Firstly I think you should always vote in elections. People have died for your right to do so and if that was taken away it would be terrible.

As for voting on independence - you've lived here for years. You're a part of this country despite what your passport says.

posted on 3/12/13

People died for our right to vote, but it's also up to the people whether they want to vote or not.

People shouldn't be guilt tripped into it, although I always vote.. May as well exercise my right to.. And it gives me the right to gurn at governments I don't like
