MuDD, for someone who allegedly works in a highly paid job, you think like a 12 year old child who doesn't have the ability to make a reasonable argument without using caveman like retorts.

How about this telling stat then?

Last Year : Manager SAF
This Year: Manager Moyes

That's the difference!

We have had most of our squad missing large parts of the season

These are just some of the players

Podolski
Walcott
Cazorla

MuDD is one of my favourite people on here but just occasionally he lets himself down with a simple 'this person is crap' style infantile remark.

I'm only hard on him because he can do so much better.

"I wonder if Moyes said the most he wanted to pay for Fabregas was £35m? I doubt it somehow."

I don't, I imagine he thought he could get a couple more in as well and thought the player wanted to move.

As you don't have a director of football model, the manager has to be accountable for the player sales and acquisitions as well in terms of ensuring they are worth it. For us, Mancini for example wanted anyone and everyone regardless of the price and that's why he kicked off and ultimately lost his job.

Moyes, I used to work in the gulf of mexico with lots of american drillers. As a result, I do not have much time for BS and I've had it with the constant load of sht we get fed by people who do not have the courage to hold someone accountable for his actions

Bidding around £25m for Fabregas then bidding £40m for Khedira on deadline day shows how disorganised we were with our transfer dealings. There just seemed to be no thinking behind any of it.

I'm sorry but Woodward is fully accountable for the embarrassment of the past transfer window, it was one of the most important elements of his job, the fact he had no past experience is the clubs fault for not seeing this may be a problem.

I wrote it and it seemed patronising but I was too lazy to rewrite it. But I really didn't mean it to come out as such!

£24 million, that was the deal of the century for an injury prone player, even though he won his last title at United, Wenger knows.

In terms of Herreira, Moyes himself said that he didn't think the player was worth the buyout clause. That's all that needs to be said really. He may well be right, but I don't see how Woodward can be blamed for going in with a bid that his manager saw as the most he wanted to pay.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think (from memory) the problem with Herrera was that he was the clubs target not Moyes? By that i mean the scouts had been watching him before Moyes appointment (obv at SAF request)... he didnt want to meet the buy out because he wasnt sure about him as he didnt know enough about him.

i think Thiago was a similar thing too.

in which case neither deal was Woodwords fault... or anyones really tbh
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Moyes apparently had 1,000 names on his scouting list at Everton, if Hererra and Thiago we're not two of these then something is very wrong.

If he couldn't see Thiago's ability then something is very very wrong.

The manager at OT will always have a say in transfers, and that's why we didn't get Herrera.

"I honestly don't think managers have a say in how much their club should bid for players, that's not their job. Their job is purely to specify a position where they would like to bring someone in, or to name a player specifically."

No, I really disagree with that, that is the fundamental difference between the manager model and the director of football model. A chief executive will not know from a playing aspect a players worth, purely a contract and business asset one. Either the director of football or the manager, depending on the model, will be told how much money is available and it is up to them how they best think the squad is strengthened - through buying one big money player or several. What you are saying contradicts virtually every manager biography going, including Fergusons where he continually mentions the parameters he was happy with in terms of sale and purchase value.

Someone has to help the director of football to set the parameters.

Now his City supporting hat is on he is public enemy #1

Melton

Of course a manger helps and will give his view on what he thinks a players worth but I don't see how a person who has absolutely no dealings with a club finances can have a better idea of how much players are worth.

Out model compared to a club like spurs is different in 1 clear way. Moyes can identify specific players he wants, at Spurs the manager only identifies the position he wants to buy. In both cases I have always believed the men in suits who's job is to sort the finances deal with how much to spend on players and their contracts.

What would Moyes or any other manager know or want to waste time on knowing the financial side? Surely it only hinders their time needed to spend on the actual players.

posted on 2/1/14

And to add to that, I actually said in the summer I didn't think Moyes should buy quickly, and I think the same with this window too. The summer will be the true measure of the pair of them for me.

But they do have a responsibility on the financial side in terms of the player worth though, why would a chief executive know how valuable an asset would be to a team? He would only know from a contract and age perspective.

Ultimately, we can only go off what managers themselves say and I have not read one yet where a manager not operating in a director of football model has not had some say on both the player buying and sale value in transfers.
