My understanding was that you had him on loan for the final year of his Hull contract and the intention was to sign him on a free at the end of this season, however Wigan have approached Hull with a view to buying him now and so Hull have considered terminating his loan and getting what they can for him, and the only way you can stop that is to buy him yourself now.

To be honest, I don't see what the problem is; If you buy him from Hull then he has less negotiating power and so you get him for cheaper wages than if he was on a free; you know he 'fits' the side, he likes the club for some reason and is even prepared to put up with half-empty stadia and poor management, so it should be a no-brainer.
