You sign players like Ozil when you have depth in the key areas and you're missing the 'spark'. We have no depth whatsoever - an injury to Giroud or mert and we are screwed
Fan pressure was like never before.
Were we not meant to sign 2/3 world class players and have a budget of up to £100M.
The summer turned out to be a bit of a let down as we did not address the main issue, which was up front.
Full credit to the players for putting us top but I don't think this squad is big enough terms of quality and it will be tested to the max next month
We do most of our business in the last few days of the window. Wenger himself said so again in this one. He said the last 3 days of the window is usually when things start to move. Be worry if nothing happen by Thursday. But right now, you should all relax and have a pint of Peroni.
So will fans be happy if we go into the next few months with no additions and have bendtner and giroud to be our lead men against:
Liverpool twice
Man United
Bayern twice
Man City
For saying we bought Ozil because of fan pressure, Wenger never gives in to fan pressure and never will and the fans were talking garbage anyway. Last summer was difficult for us because we've had a bad few years and were seen as a selling club, I think it was difficult to convince top players to join us but that will change not with Ozil and us doing well, Ozil is just the start.
One does not just buy a player like Özil on a trolley dash. Rings must be kissed, secret handshakes made and a lot of coffee drunk in the dark. This takes months.
Yes I will be happy Castor because this season is already miles than I expected and I see this current team as having a great future. Fans like you really pi$$ me off sometimes, you spend all summer moaning about how we're never gonna spend money, the team is sh!!t and we're in crisis. As it turns our we're not sh!!t, we bought Ozil and we're top of the league and all you do it moan still, miserable git.

8bit,
I am not personally moaning. Really happy with what the team has achieved so far and this, without losing our trademark.
But on the other hand, I am also realistic. We are 22 games in and still on top. This is definitely the best chance we had in years and most probably the best we will have in years too. Because let's face it, if we win it (big IF) we can be sure that both Chelsea and City will go into another shopping madness. ManU will most likely be more competitive next season and Spurs.... well they will still be cr.ap but nothing new in there
On top of that, for some reason, the God of draw is against us this season and keeps putting top teams in front of us. We are heading into our toughest fixtures we had in years and some strengthening within the squad would be more than welcome.
Let's make it happen
Are you using the crystal ball that told you we were in meltdown in the summer? Because I think it's broken. We're top after 22 games so of course we can win the league, nobody knows what will happen.
We still can't beat the top teams. We still don't have a solid spine in the team. Yes we may have Mertesacker but that is about it. Remember we still conceded 6 goals away at City. We couldn't beat Chelsea at home when they were there for the taking. Don't delude yourself, this is no league winning team. 3 more signings needed in key areas before we can seriously compete.

IAWT I agree with all of that but there a difference between buying and strengthening, Wenger doesn't buy for the sake of it even when he's under pressure and I'm happy about that because a lot of players fans are desperate for us to sign often turn out to be carp. I don't know realistic targets because I hardly watch much football but Wenger knows and I trust him to do what's best, the suggestions that he doesn't want to win is what annoys me. How many top players have been transferred this January that would actually make us better? All the activity will happen at the end so I think we will sign players but if we don't be too depressed because we're heading in the right direction, I said before the season I thought it would take two years of spending before we complete the squad.

You have said yourself that this team will not win the league unless it it strengthened.
Hothead I think we need 2 or 3 more players to complete the squad but that doesn't mean this team can't win the title. City are best that doesn't mean they will automatically win it.
I said I think we won't Bats but that doesn't mean I believe we can't or don't have a chance.
Of course we have a chance but those chances will be minimal if we don't strengthen.
That being said, I will not freak out if we don't (which I very much expect). This team has exceeded my expectations, even with Draxler I don't think we can win the league. I just think City and Chelsea will have too much for us. What I want more than anything is to win the FA Cup.
Wenger doesn't buy for the sake of it even when he's under pressure and I'm happy about that because a lot of players fans are desperate for us to sign often turn out to be carp

I agreed with this 8bit and I also think it is the right thing to do.
However, Wenger is not flawless.
In the past, he might have refused to strength the team because it would kill so and so development.
admittedly, he does look like he has changed and not afraid of getting right off deadwood. Might that continue
We are top because City and Chelsea had a slow start and we hit the ground running - we were 5 or 6 pts clear at one stage, now it's only 1 point since they've got up to speed. We have City and Chelsea to play again - 3rd is the best we can hope for, which is be happy with. However I think United being United could pip us to it
HotHead, we are top because we have been in the best league so far. Lets not forget that Liverpool were top at Christmas, we were humped at City who were just 1 point behind us and we have gone on a winning run which has seen us reclaim top spot and maintain the 1 point gap over City. It's not like they have been slowly catching up with us week after week, we have been holding our own and have a great chance to widen the gap over them over the next week as they have 2 tough games coming up vs Spurs and Chelsea.
Their run is nowhere near as tough as ours over the next couple of months, we have all of united, Chelsea, City and Liverpool to play, that's without our CL games v bayern.
City have to play at OT, Anfield, WHL, the Emirates, Goodison, the only team in the top 7 they haven't played at home is Chelsea. They also have 2 games against Barca.
I just want 1 world class striker and I believe we would have close enough to an amazing team
AW tried to get Mesut in 2007 before he went to Madrid. HE is one of the most 'wenger type players' i have ever seen.
I'd agree there is more to come from the turk-man, but it can't be coincidence that we are top?
Apart from Giroud and Podolski, why do we always sign players so late in a window ?
Sign in if you want to comment
Draxler unlikely this window...
