Offensive record? You've been watching soccer or American football, Gem.
Would you swap with them?
Best result they spend a 5th season in the Prem, worst they end up in the Championship vs our best result is to get to the Championship, worst we stay in DIV3.
and in theory if they go down they have a very strong prem squad compared to our unknown championship squad.
things are looking really good for us right now and I'm excited by the team and the style of football we are trying to play but there's a long way to go yet before we are competing with our stripy neighbours. I'm also still quite nervous that M&M continue to run the club as I just have no faith in their ability to manage wolves successfully in the long term.
in part I'd swap with the albion but on the other hand I think they are looking a bit like us two years ago - over reliant on some aging and past it players, a few who have never really been good enough and some misfits that have come in to unsettle the squad. like us they are financially solid so can easily survive the drop but they've lost their way in terms of appointing good managers with a clear strategy and I can only see them looking for another new man come may.
if peace needs a suggestion, dean saunders is available?
Not really fair to compare a much smaller club with us.
KJ has been nothing short of magnificent so far.
Results aside, the main need was to change our squad personnel and mentality with the introduction of youth.
Yesterday saw 7 Jackett introductions/signings out of 11 play for us.
I am very pleased at the way things are turning out so far. In KJ we have found someone who did what had to be done and that was to get rid of the old guard and bring in new faces.
The side seems to be settled now with just the odd change when KJ feels the need to do it and how refreshing it is that we can now brag at the best defensive record in all four divisions.
Long may this good run continue.
Up the Wolves.
I agree Pundit, i had a teeny wobble pre xmas regarding Kenny, but it turns out he did not what he was trying to achieve and it looks like he got there.
Fantastic job he has done so far, and in a much quicker time frame than i expected.
Would i swap with the baggies? Not in a million years, and you can add Man City, Chelsea, United et al to that list.
What was that banner at the ground early season........''this is our love, and it knows no division''?
Anyone care to praise Steve Morgan for employing the right man and recruitment team?
Anyone care to praise Jez Moxey for getting the dodgy old squad off our books?
Not sure praise is needed really, Morgans job is to see that the club is run properly, getting it right after several failed attempts was a bare minimum.
Moxey likewise, never had a problem with him anyway, he does a job and does it pretty well, we have moved on players that had to go, thats down to Kenny as much as anyone.
Kenny deserves praise for rebuilding a team in a short space of time and putting us in promotion contention, it is no easy task to have as many comings and goings as we have had and still get results.
The biggest praise right now should be given to the development of the academy, we are starting to pick up some genuine talent and look to have a good scouting system in place.
not sure I want to praise morgan that much for appointing the cheaper option and finally stumbling across a decent manager after three attempts? there will be some big tests of morgan's rrunning of the club next season but for now his record of making decisions is pretty shocking.
I don't think moxey has had that much to do either really. we have a lot of good championship players. we've sold them or lent them to decent championship squads. not really that difficult a task. let's see what we decide to do with the squad and budget next year, should we get promoted, when we hit the drop in sky money and are facing a widening deficit and increasing losses.
I'd rather praise the 20,000 fans who have stuck with wolves this season and pumped a huge amount of cash into the club relative to third division finances. it would have been easy for a lot of folks to walk away during the recession, but we have attendances that many championship clubs are envious of, and a core support that even a few prem sides wish they had.
How many of the new signings this season were initially Jackett's choice?
Not sure I get the question.
Kenny has wanted all of them I would say, don't see any reason to think otherwise.
The youth acquisitions, not so much, but that is left to the guys in charge of that department.
The law of averages would always favour Morgan eventually. Remember, Mick wasn't his man.
Connor, Solbakken, Saunders were his / Moxey's calls.
One in four correct calls is the reason Wolves are trying to get into a division they should never have left.
As for Albion, they are in trouble if they go down. Many ageing players on whopping wages and a guaranteed exodus of big time Charlies Jacob, Mulumbu, Boreinhioio and Thievy.
And, of course, crowds of 14,000.
Jackett has done well in getting the biggest, most expensive and best paid squad in the division into the promotion picture. And it would have been a disaster if he hadn't. I think had deserves a lot of credit for what had has done so far but the achievements of the Brentford and orient managers are far better so far this season.
Next season will be a much bigger test so let's hold judgment on whether we have the right man. To say he is better than Connor, Solbakken and Saunders is faint praise indeed
I think it is unfair to suggest that Jackett is performing the bare minimum based on a valuable squad, which in truth is far less valuable than the one he inherited.
The fact is that he has changed the squad massively, and to maintain a challenge whilst doing that is no mean feat.
As for Orient and Brentford, they have the advantage of having put teams together over a few seasons, we have done it over a few months.
Also, our starting eleven has a pretty cheap valuation once Sako is removed, we added Ricketts, Henry, Jacobs, Clarke, Dicko, Golbourne, McDonald for somewhere less than 2 million quid and 4 or 5 youngsters, that kind of valuation should not guarantee anything.
We certainly don't have the biggest squad, that's for sure. In fact our so called squad of 26 includes Bradley Reid, David Moll, Kortney Hause, Kevin Foley and Jamie O'Hara. All of whom will not feature for us this season bar injuries. So a squad of 21 is more accurate.
The main reason we have a large wage bill is because we were relegated and had many players still on Premiership wages.
Brentford and Orient have been in the lower leagues for far longer and therefore it 's only right that their players are on lower salaries. I'm sure the players KJ had brought in are on a far lower wage than the reported 20,000 quid a week O'Hara is on.
KJ deserves full credit for changing the squad and getting his own style of football going, which hopefully will get us promoted.
We certainly don't want any of the players back that he's so far let go on loan, bar the younger ones, who are gaining experience.
I have also stated that KJ may not be the right man if we do go up and can only be judged as and when we do make the step up. At least we agree on that.
But for now, he's doing a great job.
Even taking on board what you say about the 'new' team nobody else in this division has spent anywhere near £2m let alone the associated wages of our large squad. That's massive at this level. And jackett has been given the opportunity to bring in three quarters of a team of his choice. Who else in this division has had that opportunity? And why move Sako from the equation, you want us to pretend he isn't there cause it doesn't suit your argument?
Brentford and Orient have not been building for this moment for years, they are confirmed lower division clubs with crowds less than half ours and a fraction of the resources. Their managers have performed miracles really.
I am not decrying what jackett has done but he has had assets to build on that no other team has had. He really should get us promoted and I think he will. Next year he won't be in that position and the test will be much much greater against clubs with massive parachute payments.
Next season will be a huge struggle if promoted. I would be happy for Wolves to avoid relegation for a couple of seasons - that will only be achieved by keeping both Jackett and the players he has given a chance to.
Won't happen, though.
Fans will be calling for his head - just like those at many Championship clubs that have struggled to get promoted or struggled to avoid relegation.
People forget just what an atrocious division we are in.
I was excluding Sako as he is an anomoly fee wise, in the same way i would remove a Chelsea youth product if he was among 10 other 20 million quid players.
I get your point, i agree we should expect to be at the right end of the table, but i don't think that anything less would make Kenny a bad manager, the job still needs doing and he is doing it.
Also, we have seen other clubs down here in the same situation and many have failed.
I don't think we should under value what Kenny has done is basically my point.
I do not agree with that analysis at all Unc, i think we will be fine next year, and more than that, i don't think it is beyond the realms of possibility we could mount close to a play off push with very little expenditure.
For me the championship is very overrated, teams in 7-10th place have very average records like 12-10-8, 11-12-8, 12-7-10, 11-10-9.........the division is just an even plain of mediocrity.
What concerns me the most, is that DJ, UH, Cinci and Wolfie already think we have been promoted with 16 games left and only being 3 points ahead of 3rd
I am confident Pundit, absolutely, but it is not over yet.
If we get promoted then I firmly believe it will be a case of consolidating our position in the Championship. What KJ is doing this season is trying to keep a balanced side together and the more they play, without too many changes, the better it'll be. We seem to have a settled back four and to have the best defensive record in all 4 divisions is a sign that we can maintain that, if we go up.
It won't be easy, but it'll be nothing like you're trying to portray Herbie.
Wolves are no better than ANYBODY in the Championship and far worse than at least eighteen clubs. Take a look at that league, we would struggle today to beat any of them - and I include Yeovil and Bournemouth in that.
This is the problem with playing in a pìss poor league and winning most your matches. Like Rangers fans, we think we are two or three seasons from the Champions League.
There is a rude awakening coming for many.
