Wasn’t the whole point in signing Mignolet to provide proper competition for Reina?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty sure it wasn't. I'm pretty sure BR thought Valdes would leave Barca and Reina would go there so needed a new keeper.
You don't spend £9-10m on backup.
Reina's time is up at the club and Rodgers made it clear yesterday. That open letter he wrote saying that he regrets that the club didn't inform him before signing off his loan move has sealed his fate. BR won't take him back after that. I expect a full transfer to Napoli in the summer or another loan move. He won't be going Barca it seems as they have apparently got Ter Stegen. But I do wish him the best as he was a great player for us and came across a really decent bloke.
As for Mignolet he's had a mixed bag but for me has been on the end of some unfair stick. Yes his command of the area isn't the best but we've had about 76 different combinations of our back line which hasn't helped. He's clearly an excellent shot stopper and every keeper have their howlers but the negredo one aside I can't recall a real one from him this season. Does also need to improve with his feet as Pepe was one of the best at distributing from open play and goal kicks. But we must give him a chance and for me has done enough to warrant that number one slot
Sure he hasn’t been great in the last few years.......
One of my favourite keepers, but was becoming a liability. Take of the rose tinted specs. Mingolet as good as if not better than Reina and much younger. He has had to deal with a constantly changing defence in front of him and has still made less mistakes than Reina did last season.
Dudek one the CL, lets get him back.
Reina has already decided he has left in his head.
At this moment in time mignolet does'nt exactly inspire me with confidence, having said that the four in front have'nt helped, but he has to start taking the initiative too with crosses and corners to help them out,he has height advantage plus arm length so should be doing much better commanding his area instead of being on his line all the time.
We miss reina's distribution and leadership, although i don't miss the one on ones he faced as he hardly ever saved anything in those situations.
from an interview rodgers did before the season began reina/his representatives told him to expect an offer from barcelona in the summer and pepe would want to go, so they had to look to bring a new keeper in
I dont think mig trusts his defenders.
I miss Pepe - he's perfectly suited to the football we play and a brilliant bloke
but I really like Mig so losing Pepe hasn't set us back
every keeper have their howlers but the negredo one aside I can't recall a real one from him this season.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Benteke's goal comes to mind though
Thats why he should be doing more instead of being on his line all the time,i'm sure i remember some mackem fans after we signed him saying he aint to clever with crosses and corners.
For me Reina is easily a better keeper than Mignolet
---
I don't agree with this. Simple facts are that Mignolet has been performing a lot better than Reina did for us last season.
Reina's attitude stank in the last two seasons for us as well, and not sure about others but I was sick of him passing the blame for every error he made in goal onto the defence, it was pathetic.
Anyway perhaps i'm being a little harsh but I won't be disappointed to see the back of him permanently. And no I don't forget how fantastic he was for us in the Rafa years, he was right up there with the best in the world, but a change is best for both parties now.

People have selective memories too don't they. Yes that wasn't his finest moment but how about these that you have no doubt forgotten:
1. The penalty save against Stoke in the final minute on his debut
2. The match immediatly after against Aston Villa, when he made two brilliant saves from Benteke in the final 5 minutes to earn us the 3 points in a poor second half showing.
3. The next game when he made a good number of saves late on to deny Swansea a win they could easily have got.
4. The countless saves he made in the derby at Goodison at key moments, I counted about 5 or 6 one on one's with Lukaku and Deulofeu where he saved our blushes.
I'm sure there have been many other moments too
He has easily earnt us more points than he has lost

-----------------
Well the team as a whole has been performing better than last season so it's a bit unfair to say that
By the way OP are you a big Harry Potter fan?
For the game/style liverpool play then Reina would be the best of the two because of his distribution etc. Personally I think he is still the better keeper. Big loss I feel for Liverpool.
Mignolet is still pretty much a fledgling keeper with no experience in europe. A stage where he will be expected to perform next season. im not saying get rid of him but we should really think twice about letting Reina go. Brad jones as back up next season just isnt good enough
Silky
i wouldnt say big fan
.... game of thrones however
I really don't get this obsession with ball playing goalkeepers. Their job is to stop the opposition scoring goals not to be playing Alonso esque 40 yard raking passes to the wing backs.
Obviously Reina is better in this regard but it really isn't that important for a goalkeeper but what is important is shot stopping where Mignolet has proved he is easily better.
Yes Mignolet's kicking is crap but if we concede 10 less goals throughout the reason as a result of it then fine by me.
I think given the choice reina would prefer to stay at napoli rather than compete for the jersey at LFC.
And in any case was'nt he earning over 100k pw??
Reina has been in great form for Napoli this, he is way better than Mignolet imo

Woah not having a go we all make mistakes but you can't deny it was poor mistake and was replying to a comment that said he couldn't remember any big mistakes
Yes Jordan, that comment wasn't directed at you personally. More in general at Mignolet's critics of late who seem to have concentrated on his post christmas form and forgetting how good he was in the first half of the season
