Brendan Rogers

Jimmy, the first article I posted on here was about what that Greek jouno said about Brendan back in October.

As far as he is concerned Brendan is the new Shankly and LFC dominance is set to return. As I said back then it's refreshing to hear of positive view of LFC expressed with conviction by a national media journalist. The only shame is he writes for the sun

It's silly comparing Brendan to Shanks. He's doing a fine job but he's won a total of no trophies in his time at Anfield. If he bags the Premiership it would be a start. Very big if though.

No they aren't.

The other two lazy idiots on that programme just reel of brain dead statements with no prior thought as to what their actually implying. City have a lot of money right now, they are not one of the Worlds great clubs. Therefore it's not a job a manager of LFC would be interested in. Barca is different, but again no LFC manager who is yet to achieve anything would go there leaving a job unfinished.

The level of London centric boll ocks uttered on that programme is astounding

yeah, its a nonstory.

This is definitely a conversation that should be held 3-4 years down the line rather than now.

For all the brilliant work BR has done, and he has done a great job, he's yet to win anything and we have no idea how he'd handle a title challenge if Liverpool were seen as one of the favorites. Right now the team is playing in one competition with very little pressure on their backs, seeing how their expectations have already been passed.

But the signs are all positive at the moment, it's just way too early

Wait until he has more than just domestic tourneys to play in before rating him the new messiah.

Benjy is doing more than alright but he has had it easy compared to Mourinho, Pelli, Arsene and wor Davie.

Depends I guess if he wants to manage an elite club at an elite level, or Liverpool. No offence, just that you need a good few years back amongst the elite clubs to be considered at the same level.

Whitewall, your thinking is completely flawed as usual. Liverpool have won a fair few trophies including the same amount of CL's as Chelsea, while still being considered a sleeping giant.

Liverpool is a bigger club than Chelsea back in the day, at present and into the future.

Chelsea = Rich mans plaything, nothing more nothing less.

Aggers

He has a point.

Also, you're hardly owned by a pauper.

He will be at Liverpool for years and years IMO.

All this talk of 'must sign him up' is just reactionary drivel.

Plenty of managers have rolling contracts and the like.

He knows full well he is on to a great thing with us, he won't be chucking that away any time soon just for a bit more wedge.

for arguments sake....

Someone turning a not-so-elite club, into one??

Now thats an achievement.

Not being handed £100 squillion with a sqaud worth £200 squillion...thats easy

Just play Championship manager and you'll see.

How the likes of Man City and Chelsea do not win the league year in, year out is beyond me.

Sensual, much as though I would love to agree that BR is the new Shanks, like the views of several expressed here, it's a tad premature. Like is said, here's hoping.

DDFP thinks rodgers is going to barca

More likely he thinks your monosyllabic answers are poorly explained and doesn't hold out much hope of you explaining them properly

Jimmy, it was the Greek journo who has implied Shankly comparisons, abt 3 times now on that show.

I think to class Brendan alongside our greatest ever manager is wildly premature. However, he's doing an excellent job so far and he does appear to have potential for greatness. I can't describe what I mean any better than that I'm afraid

It will be interesting to see how he copes in the Cl next season.

Also, in the laugue alongside it

I am pretty sure that I saw somewhere in the past week or two BR saying his contract talk would be a distraction now. It's not all about a wage packet--I am sure there will be discussions about his role, things he wants to see happen, etc.; but he full well knows FSG will want to keep him.

He doesn't strike me as being after money, of which he'll get plenty in any event. As long as he feels the club is progressing, that he'll get required backing, etc. I don't think his head will be turned. I am of roughly same generation, and don't think any other PL teams could woo him away from LFC--he won't see them as a move up. At this stage, only perhaps Bayern and the two Spanish clubs maybe he would look at in that manner, but again he will understand job security is non existent in Spain, and I doubt Bayern is going to trade in their gaffer anytime soon. Also he understands the fans loyalty and love of the club; and that he has a chance to become a legend amongst a club he no doubt grew up viewing as European Elite.

Lastly, I think he will enjoy more autonomy here than any of the other big clubs I mentioned; and if he does start bringing trophy's as I expect, he will be the face of the club for years to come, much as Shankly was in the past, and SAF has been recently for Manu.

my two bits worth, anyway.

Their is no way Barca are interested in BR, it's drivel. Their is absolutely nothing about the way Liverpool play or his own personal footballing philosophy that would suggest he is the right manager for Barca.

Luis Enrique will be the next Barca manager most likely this summer.

posted on 20/3/14

Don't FSG have the option to extend the contract by a year if they so wish? This is a rumour I have heard. Therefore he will have two seasons rather than one year before it expires.

It makes sense to get the season done and dusted before this addressing BR's contract. No distractions.
