Lets go back one year. We needed players but it didn't look that desperate. I would say if SAF was here we would have brought in a CM and a LB and be in a good shape overall.
Our new manager has come in and spent 70mn (that is not a small amount) and we look worse off.
--------------------------------------
Fellaini was a mistake (and has been out for most of the season) and Mata has only been with us 10 bloody weeks.

In my opinion, Moyes will never be the man to make us a great team again. Watching the way we played against Bayern, it reminded me of how negative our football has become in the last few years.
Why can't we strive for a manager that makes other teams across Europe scared of facing? Just look at the last few years, every time we play a half decent team, we have to sacrifice our own attacking intent because we are more scared of what the other team will do to us.
The squad really needs massive changes, that much is very true. In the long term, do I believe that David Moyes will make our sides one of the top clubs in Europe? I will put that as an unequivocal no.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
this. I said it couple of days back. Under Moyes even if we have top 11 players in the world playing for us, we won't be that team who scares shiet out of other European teams.

Lots of fans were slating Moyes for under bidding for players so I don't quite get what people want.
It's almost like they want the best players (which we all want) but want Moyes to prove something that doesn't need proving by buying some cheap players.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Well if you bid 25mn odd for Fabregas and then end up buying Fellaini for 27mn then I am not sure how people would view it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A fek up that has already been admitted. Fabregas was clearly not gonna come, possibly because of a new manager being appointed
Are we gonna keep banging on about this in another 5 years?
Moyes was gonna hardly come in and overhaul the squad right away
This Summer he has had a season to sort out what he wants to keep and what he wants to buy

Sorry, I didnt get past you saying we wernt that desperate last season
Well, it seems on this we are on the same page then
Because a LB and CMs are were we are in need.
And with Rio (likely) and Vidic likley going then we will need CB numbers in the squad too.
I don't see any other pressing needs whatsoever unless the club are giving up on Nani
If there is one thing I admire about Moyes this season is the fact he has all but kept to his promise that he'll give all the players in our squad playing time and a means to keep them in Moyes future plans.
Of course there has been some players who would have featured more had it not been down to injuries (Nani,Anderson) and reportedly off pitch issues (Zaha).
But Moyes,Ed and United in general really need to get the summer business done ,early and quiet if possible.
If not then the sh/t could really hit the fan.
If Moyes still has Valencia and Young here next season he needs to feck off ASAP.

I hope not everyone has forgotten the 'value in the market' statement that Fergie used to make. He was saying that because it was driven by our financial situation. So is it not conceivable that Moyes could also be trusted to bring in some 'value' signings rather than getting expensive players only.

Or don't play 4-4-2. play 4-2-3-1. To be honest, and SAF did this a few times, don't play with an out and out winger. Hargreaves played right midfield in the CL a few times. Cleverley has played it for us a few times, and quite well I might add. He can certainly cross better than Valencia.
I would rather see us play a youngster in the CL than continue with Valencia.

Fergie didnt have to run United on a low budget so why should David Moyes?
•••••••
Fergies reputation would easily warrant high levels of investment.
Moyes had various advantages that made him a good choice at the time. Mainly style of play, but ability to get the best out of players and hopefully a good eye for a deal.
We cannot have every signing being a 30 million player at each position. We are going to need those 5 million signings, 10 million youngsters. It annoys to keep bringing up Rodgers but getting sturridge when he was on the outs and coutinho too was a brilliant signing. Flanagan and sterling coming through. They were not world superstars nor were they 30 million players a pop.
buying big name big money signings are all ok, but we are going to need those small astute signings. Great managers have one or the other to point to.
So is it not conceivable that Moyes could also be trusted to bring in some 'value' signings rather than getting expensive players only.

I'm sure he will get value signings - he did at Everton
He will also spend big on new players too, like fergie did when necessary (like it is now)
You saying he doesn;t seem to be doing that is a tad daft condering he hasn't been in the job a year yet and the transfer targets he had at Everton will be on a lower level than the targets he will now have for United
There's be uproar if Moyes brought in a bunch of cheapos this Summer

1. Moyes didn't operate on a low budget at Everton. He operated on one that was pretty much where he had Everton on an average league position, around 6th or 7th.
2. We don't operate, and never have done, on a restricted budget, so why would we that be a reason to appont Moyes.
Im lost to what your point is now Utopian
