Fair point that Gomez could be more of a threat, especially as he's quite dominant in the air in defence.
Then again, he blocked-off Maguire for Van Dijk's goal so maybe it's part of the plan

Is he? He gets bullied a fair bit by bigger players, which is fine when he has VvD behind him but Kane has given him a tough time as have a few others.

Thing is he’s quick as anything and if one goes, one stays. VVD is the better in the air, I’m alright with him being the cover.

I felt like he was generally good at getting to and clearing long balls with headers, maybe he's not as dominant as I thought

Strikers target gomez more cause vvd is clearly better in the air, Gomez has improved a lot though and become more aggressive and competitive in the air and started to win a lot more duels when players try target him.
In his defence hes on the side with robbo too so its targeted even more for that reason too.
Gomez is quality, statistically the best partner for VVD, and one who could play for us for years yet..
Playing him is long term planning as well as getting the best we can today, no brainer.
