We’ve a few players who have been out on loan and done very well.

For example Nat Phillips, did very well in Germany last season and looked good when he came back for a couple weeks to help us too. If we’re looking for a player to challenge Gomez and partner VVD then we need to sign someone, however if we’re looking for a player to replace Lovren as 4th choice centre half then Phillips fits the bill for me and would save money to spend elsewhere.

Grujic has done well for 2 seasons now, could he be an option to improving our midfield? Maybe. At the very least his good 2 seasons means we can make a decent chunk of cash off him to fund a purchase.

Wilson did okay last season at Bournemouth, again i think maybe Minamino replaces him and he will raise some cash through a sale. But still an option that Klopp might look to.

Brewster has been a star at Swansea, maybe he can get some minutes instead of Bobby to rest him more?

Most importantly for me would be getting a little cover in for the fullback areas, i think Trent and Robbo in particular play too many minutes due to there being a lack of options over them.

Aye, id rather use phillips then spend 9m on a Lovren replacement.

Not sure about Grujic i do rate him as a player just not convinced how or where he'd fit in exactly if he fits our system/style.

Wilson, wasnt he their top scorer? Certainly in goals to minutes. Dno exactly why he started seeing less time?

Brewster, i linked a vid of his swansea highlights, kids some finisher. the vollet on his left foot was insane. We could use a more clinical striker to mix it up, but i think this lad needs minutes, and we should look for another loan so he can continue to develop.

So how do we improve our first 11 next season without spending on it?

Firmino adding more goals would be one way? Could say the same for Salah too, 19 was his lowest tally yet? Its not like we dont create enough chances!

Gomez/Matip, providing VVDs a machine again one of these staying fit for a full season. Both have had insane half a season or so runs alongside big Virg but neither have managed a full season without injury?

Ox/Keita - Hendo was brilliant in his new role offering us a lot going forward with his engine n runs creating space for teammates and problems for opposition, chipped in with some big goals too and should have had a shed load more assists (atleast 5 from mane alone). But we could do with Keita and Ox staying fit and getting to top form to offer that something a little extra in our mf 3. Be amazing if Ox could get to pre double ACL injury form or Keita to reach his max potential.

I'm less sure of how Brewster fits than the others. He would require us to change our style significantly.

Wilson can at least be a game changer for teams sitting deep against us, long range shots, and the resulting second chances if he can get settled and confident. Lots of teams stop playing youngsters if they don't think they have a chance of signing them long term, it's a pitfall of the loan system, why develop a player ahead of your own?

Grujic has scored a few this season, but is also good defensively and if i remember the scouting reports I read he's quite dominant aerially. Again chances from set pieces....

This was the brewster vid, some hints about him too, with the little flicks n stuff (link up play), few clips of him doing the dirty work too. Certainly enough there to suggest hes more than just a finisher. I caught a few of their games, sometimes hes quiet for long periods sure but so were Swansea as a whole, not really getting service etc. But get the feeling he dont need many chances to score a goal.

Have people actually watched Phillips in the German second division? His stats suggest he spent as much time on the bench as he did on the pitch. He’s 23 years old and has about 20 competitive matches played.

Lovren started 15 matches in all comps last year. Is Phillips ready and good enough for that?

Anyone watching on C4?

Great programme on Klopp and LFC. Charting their paths to PL glory.

Brilliant documentary, what a manager we have. Will be a sad day when he leaves us, make the most of him while he's here.

Ive watched some of him, obviously not loads but a few games, and he’s looked good each time.

I think bringing Grujic back into the squad, incorporating Jones in as well, would free Fabinho up to also help cover centre back which he has been good at.

If we had Nat Phillips and Fabinho each covering circa 10 games next season at centre half that would be just fine. We also have Van den Berg and Hoever who could perhaps get a few minutes in the league cup. Then we could spend whatever money we raise through the sales of Lovren, Karius, Shaqiri, Wilson etc plus whatever we had already on other areas.

Depends what you prioritise, for me centre back cover is low down the list so I’d get a little more creative with how to solve that issue.

Appreciate the response.

Can’t remember where I read it recently, but there was talk of evolving the formation so in certain situations we could effectively drop a CB and put Fab or potentially Thiago into that spot, but as more of a deep lying mid.

Grujic is an interesting one. Never heat much about him, seems to be doing ok, but Klopp doesn’t seem to send out promising players on loan. Seems to keep the Real potential in and around the first team.

"What you mean is you want a big shiny signing that looks all exciting. The sort city do constantly. Like spending millions on players to sit on the bench and subsequently gain about 20 points less."

---------------------

Sorry, but the year we really became great, 2018/19, was the year we did a football manager style spend. Van Dijk, Fabinho, Alisson in quick succession transformed us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True but we made a lot of money in sales, mainly Coutinho. We have no asset that we can SL off for stupid money this time and no one would afford any of our players anyway.

If both Keita and Ox were to have a normal season injury wise then that would be a huge part of the puzzle solved in my opinion. We wouldn't need to sign anyone else in attack for me. Those two have been great for us when fit

It will be interesting to see how Klopp creatively solves some issues, rightly or wrongly the noises we are hearing from the club is we won’t be spending much this season. That creates a few issues and offers an opportunity at the same time.

I agree, i think ultimately Grujic will be sold, but at least he will fetch us well over 20 mil for his performances. He’s done very well out on loan for a while, again i won’t pretend to have watched all his games but the few I’ve seen he’s caught my eye. Perhaps the lack of cash injection into the squad will offer him a chance he wouldn’t have got?

Transfer news

‘Liverpool are closing in on a deal to bring Algerian central defender Aissa Mandi to the club.’

BeIN SPORTS Commentator and former Algerian international Hafid Derradji took to his personal Twitter to claim “Algerian international Issa Mandi, Spain’s Betis player is close to signing for Liverpool FC. Little details prevent this so far.”

Apparently fee is in the region of 10 mil for the 28 year old.

Also if it’s true that PSG are going to bid 50 mil for Matip then I’d bite their hand off. Good player for us, but so injury prone. And with Gomez himself seemingly always picking up some knocks I’d be happy to let Matip go and reinvest that money in a quality player who could challenge Gomez, and hopefully stay fit a little more.

What a free signing Matip ended up being though

I haven’t been on in 2 days and stopped reading the previous days shiiiiit when it was all about of the kit looked good or not

I would genuinely be worried if we shed half the squad here. lovren, shaqiri, matip, origi. its not like they are wonderful but they beat barca 4-0 lol.
--------
If we sold those players though you'd imagine we'd bring in replacements. The only exception is maybe Shaqiri depending on how ready Klopp feels Elliott is.

There's now way we'd sell both Lovren and Matip and not bring another CB in.

He can play right back too, which will be a big help if he does sign.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It will be like playing Joe Gomez at full back. Not very useful going forward.
