Essentially my point.

I can understand why LB cover was signed, well in fairness I can understand all of the signings really, I'm just not sure they were prioritised correctly when looking at all the factors involved.

I think we needed all of the signings we made this summer, but selling Lovren meant we also needed a CB.

We messed that up and unfortunately thanks for Pickford will be paying the price.

think we were banking on virgil not getting his career cut short tbf otherwise i think its okay for a season

We'll be fine. We have an extra midfielder so Fabinho can play there. As such we have four cbs.

I'm not saying I disagree with the signings that were made, but would another CB not have been more of a priority? Minamino could develop into Firmino's role and even though the quality difference is still big, he's beginning to get up to speed and can develop in that role.

My point is, even with the signings that were made, the 4 CB's choices were the league best centre back, 2 unreliable CB's and a CB that isn't natural and plays a key role in holding midfield. Could another back up option for the front 3 have been signed in January/next summer? Could have kept Origi, Minamino and Shaqiri for another season or half a season and improved the starting CB position.

In fairness, I did say you can't predict your best CB getting injured, but now what's left is 2 unreliable CB's and a player whose strengths lie in midfield. Almost gone back to what it was a few seasons ago when the defence was Matip, Lovren and Klavan.

Minamino has put in a couple of good performances this season when given the chance.

Fabinho is arguably our best midfielder, always had a problem with this.

If we can get a midfield of Thiago, Henderson and Wijnaldum/Keita for most games and have Fabinho alongside Matip/Gomez in defence then that's not too shabby. We might have to accept that we'll be a bit more vulnerable from set pieces for a while though.

This no need to panic and the sooner we have Allison back the better.

all that's needed is a change of tactic.

double down on the advanced full backs by having fabinho park himself with the two cbs and make it a quasi back 3.

today you.can see fabinho "go forward"

just let him stand centrally and have matip go left and gomez right. that will give enough cover in transition.

when defending drop the full backs back in and let fabinho screen the other 2.

alternatively go 4231 and heavily screen the cbs with both fabinho and henderson and push someone right on.

e.g. keita left, fabinho no 10 and salah as no 9. who plays rw then is mane and I hate that idea as it negative his best attributes.


there's lots of options what to do to resolve the "weakness" but the reality is every single one says no.more high line so the entire 11 have to adapt

He didn’t realize that he could recommend Pickford to be sent off because of the offside. That in itself is mental. Then he didn’t take any action when Jimenez kicked out at some player in the Leeds game yesterday. There has to be some sort of action taken for such incompetence

Agreed. Refs deserve protection but it cant be unlimited as it makes the standard of officiating to not improve at all IMO.

It's not a mistake when he has a history of not calling rash challenges.

There's 2 other red card incidents that he totally ignored (coincidently also ligament damage) while being the VAR referee.

If we all facked up as massively as he did in our own jobs, we'll most likely get fired or a formal written warning at the very minimum.

He is also the ref that Robertson had an argument with last season in our match against Burnley. He's just a poor ref. There's enough evidence to warrant all the flack he's getting.

This isn’t about protection, it’s about understanding the rules of the game. As mentioned completely unacceptable performance from a supposed expert in his field.

Not sure what stood out about Tuchel to PSG in the first place really. Had a really attacking side but with some very good attacking talent at Dortmund.

You might have answered your own question.

United board is great, they’re acting as if the CL and league are in the bag already
