Nope. Don't understand this PL one. I do the Sky one at work and it's much better.

You don't get points for bench players unless

1) You've activated bench boost for that gameweek.
2) If one or more of your starting 11 do not make it onto the pitch, then the sub's take their place, in order of priority determined by the order of the subs on your team.

So you need to arrange your subs in the order you want them to be subbed in. The game will automatically sub players and even adjust your formation to make it fit.

So in order to get the Bamford points, you need to pray that one of your starting 11 doesn't get on the pitch. Then you better have Bamford as the first sub on your team so he can be subbed in for that player.

If Bamford is 2nd on your subs, you need two players to not get on the pitch and so on.
