Non football people shouldn't make football decisions. Gordon is a finance guy and hasn't a clue about the footballing side. I think Klopp has told them to sign a CB if we want to compete otherwise we could finish outside the top 4.

A good CB makes a big impact on our attacking play.

Most of the fan base said Williams and Phillips are not good enough and Klopp knew it as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry but this is ridiculous. A multi million pound signing must make financial sense, it can't just be a footballing decision or you end up like Leeds
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.

It's all well and good saying that Liverpool should spend £60-70m on a new CB to ensure CL football, but what happens if you spend that amount on a CB, that the club currently can't afford, and then don't finish in the CL places? Then, as stated above, you end up like Leeds.

I agree that non-football people shouldn't try and make football decisions, but that's the point in the conversations between the financial department, the coaching department and the recruitment department.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying that they should just say absolutely no to a decision such as bringing in a centre back but they are a vital part of the equation.

These are huge investments.

Well yes that's also true.

The club shouldn't stop looking for a CB to see who is available and at what price, but equally the club simply cannot just turn around and say "we need a CB for the CL, let's go and spend whatever it takes on x player and get into the CL" there as the risk is just too severe.

Let's say we don't finish in the top 4. What are the ramifications of this? Quality players wouldn't come to a Europa league team and you end up with a Balotelli type player or other second choice players who are not good enough.

A good example is Arsenal who are trying to get cheap deals and also taking a gamble on players like Pepe to get them back in the top 4.

But surely that's better than potentially being in the same situation as Leeds back in 2003? It's taken them 17 years to get back to the PL, along with spells in League One with a points deduction and administration.

Also I think the situation to Arsenal's is different because Liverpool have won the CL and PL recently. So, a bit like Chelsea, you could argue that the club may be capable of keeping hold of the best players (Van Djik, Salah, Mane etc) for another season and potentially win something because of the record of doing it recently.

That mentality may be enough to persuade a couple of players of quality as well. By saying, "look, we've had a bad season, but we've won this and this in the last few years and we expect to do so again. If we don't, then we will let you move on."

No CL also impacts contract renewals for VVD, Fab, Salah, Bobby and Mane whose current deals expire in 2023. 2 years is usually the time when a new deal is muted.

A better example is Arsenal under Arteta because the signings seem far more considered and better priced.

I don't missing out on CL would particularly effect us signing players, in fact most of our best signings have come from clubs outside of the CL, but either way I expect us to finish at least top three.

DDG appears to have got over his very bad 2 years. Not making those howlers anymore which is a shame.

Had been getting worried about United, great stuff. City to run away with it now.

I'm fine with City winning it. 9 years and counting for United now.

Look lads, we are half way through a mental season. Look at some of the results. Nothing that’s gone before will help any of us predict how it’s gonna pan out from here. I’m stunned to see people throw the towel in so easily. Have you learned nothing in your life of supporting the club? Relax lads.

So, I assume city are still in both domestic cups so you’d imagine that they, like every other team out there, are gonna feel the impact of so few rest days. The intensity of the schedule is gonna break every team at some point.

Anyway anything can happen from here. In all honesty, it’s been a quite mesmerizing season so far.

Stop being so miserable. It could be worse.....

Think last nights results should have given us a lift

Finally spent some of the moolah that we've been saving over the past few months. Got a few bits stored for a couple of holidays to celebrate our 30ths this year but also just invested in a new TV package with all the sports channels at last

No more streaming for this mug.

Also got myself a TTRS being delivered tomorrow . A good week in the Fred household.

You guys made any frivolous lockdown purchases?

Results like that is why United won't be winning the league isn't it really. I anticipate the "OleOut" brigade may be back out in force soon.

We’ve had results like that too, as have most other teams. It certainly doesn’t rule them out. What will is if Fernandes gets injured, they are virtually a one man team.

I can't see us winning the league either for the same reason, not with City's relentless form at the moment. Shows that you can't rule anybody out though as of yet.
