Wouldn't expect somebody like Schuurs to do any better at first tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have seen him dealing with all type of strikers and he dominated them. Played against one of the quickest strikers who plays for the dutch national team and he had him in his pocket. He played last week against Lille last week and he looked much better than Botman who we are linked with. Did well against Zapata who is a physical strong striker.
He would not be beaten for pace by McBurnie that's for sure.
What up trannies.
I looked at the table yesterday. Bit grim. But it absolutely looks like the same table of the last couple of years, with the exception being that we are a bit fecked.
City up top with loads of points, huge gap to everyone else. None of the chasing pack have made any inroads in closing the gap to the top and for the most part all look well shaky.
It gives me confidence that we can be challenging again next season with a fit squad again. We aren’t done. Far from it.
The Main thing this season has shown me is just how good VVD is. Obviously already knew he was world class, but the impact of losing him has been far greater than i thought it would ever be.
A priority in the summer should be getting another top quality centre back, so if VVD is out again we don’t suddenly plummet down the table.
Be nice to have the big man back wouldn't it.
I was thinking of who I'd let go this summer and made up some arbitrary prices that seem reasonable. In order:
Karius £2m
Origi £12m
Wilson £8m
Shaqiri £12m
Matip £10m
Ox £12m
Wij £0
I really wouldn't mind having Grujic in the squad myself. He's a unit, rarely injured, can play 6 and has a fair bit of experience now. Not going to say I've watched loads of Porto this season though. Of the U23s Cain is probably performing the best with 6 goals and 5 assists in 12 games. Elliot I would put into the squad too and not loaned out. Not only has he got quality but I'd rather him training with Salah than Nathan Redmond.
Trouble is with all that is that we'd need a CB, a CM and I think an out and out striker and although we'd be saving a bundle on wages there (circa £500k a week amazingly) unless Edward's works his magic and way surpass my numbers above we may struggle to get three first team quality signings.
No one is going to pay for Matip or Ox. They are severely damaged goods.

I’d give Manfroms right ballack to have VVD back now. Better to just wait until next season though with us out of the running for most things now.
I’d like to see Grujic get a chance too, but would understand if the club looked to cash in.
I wonder if Klopp might take the opportunity to have a mini rebuild, with perhaps moving one of the front 3 on to replace them and add to other areas of the pitch. He did say he wanted to oversee the rebuild to leave the next manager with a squad ready to compete, rather than leaving them to rebuild.
Not saying that’s what i want, I’m just curious if it may come sooner than we think.
I'm starting to wonder if mane is a spent force tbh
Really liked the look of schuurs vs us ngl. He bullied mane n our attackers for large periods. Remember being impressed during and after. If that rumour is true of his release clause we should be all over it.

Could have thought same about ings after double acl.
Issue will be wages. Even if we get money theyll need paying off to take a pay cut id imagine. So prob no profit in it.

Not having that he was in there up until the everton game after the restart. We’ve been dodgy since withthe good performances n results the anomaly. Hes class n a huge miss but pretty sure he played in a game welost 7-2 too.
Issues n problems n decline were there well before vvd injury from what i remember. Dont buy the hungover excuse either klopp played full strength no kids no squad players he wanted that points record n they couldnt manage it.

Ings went on loan for a year. Ox could probably get a loan like Walcott but he will break down.
Matip on the other hand is a Ledly King. He will never be relied on.
Ox was a crock before we bought him.
Horrible waste of money
Apparently the club are looking to cash in on Grujic in the summer for around £25m due to the emergence of Curtis Jones this season, however that was just paper talk.
Definitely another attacking player, preferably a CF, and another CB are needed in the summer.
Matip, Ox, Wijnaldum, Grujic, Karius, Shaqiri, Origi and Davies at minimum should leave. That may free up a fair bit to spend on a couple of better quality players.
Although after this season is it still a case of quantity not quality of players.

We've struggled to put a squad together for most of the season, and have struggled for strength in depth even when we were at our strongest and you want to sell 8 players?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think we struggle for strength in depth at our strongest at all.
If I put forward my first team, although some may disagree, it shows strength in depth in the squad, when you look at the players who aren't in it.
Alisson
TAA, Gomez, VVD, Robertson
Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago
Salah, Firmino, Mane
Adrian
Williams
Tsimikas
Matip
Kabak(I'd be surprised if we didn't pay the £18m for him)
Wijnaldum(potentially leaving)
Jones
Ox
Keita
Milner
Shaqiri
Origi
Jota
That is 24 players. Perhaps only doubts as backups are Williams, still young and unproven, perhaps not got enough attacking ability to play in the system. Origi, needs replaced, with either a striker, unless Jota plays there or a left sided player. Various players who pick up injuries here and there, like Ox, Matip and Keita but as long as they are squad players, this shouldn't be an issue, considering you can't keep 24 top players who are fit all season happy.
Yes if you have your three centre backs out for the season and injuries to midfielders who have had to go in there, you'll have issues but this is pretty much unprecedented.
I see no reason why we couldn't sell five players from that list, sign three, improve the overall squad and bring in Elliott. We've already got a replacement for Wijnaldum in Jones and we've got Thiago/Henderson who can fill in for Fabinho, should we have another emergency centre back situation, which you would think would be unlikely for lightning to strike twice, in two seasons.
Id be surprised to see another season out of milner....
Shaq is getting gametime so will probably stay.
Origis time has to be up, he doesn't seem to be trusted at all, and that's because he's a donkey.
Karius and grujic are irrelevant as we haven't had them in the squad anyway, Although I'd probably keep Grujic especially if Milly goes..
Keita should stick around another season, too many changes at once upsets a team, and I believe he's more likely to change games than origi, even with his injuries..
"Id be surprised to see another season out of milner...."
I think that will be down to Milner himself and whether he accepts his reduced role in the squad.
Milner will see out his contract I'd have thought.
Plated well this season too.
Milner will still be a useful last 10 minute player next season with the odd starts.

His wage for 10 mins a game will probably hamper the quality of players we can afford to bring in.
A bit like certain players picking up 100s of thousands for sitting on the physios table.

His quality and experience are vital for a winning squad, not to mention his influence in the dressing room. The example he gives to younger players, where at 35, he's still one of the fittest players in the squad.
