Where did the idea that Joelinton is the boogeyman come from?! The guy is only just taller than me and about the same weight I was 15 years ago

He’s an absolute thug. He goes into quite a lot of tackles with the intent to hurt players. It’s not about him being bigger than our players it’s the fact that his intent is all wrong.

Tries to break Rice’s leg a couple of seasons ago, gets up and starts celebrating.

Red carded in a preseason friendly for stamping on a player.

Pulled Szoboszlai down to the ground in our 4-2 win in January last year.

Any elbow or excessive challenge needs a ref that’s prepared to do his job. And VAR to support. That I’d completely agree on. The pushing and physicality we just need to stand up to.

Most physical players push boundaries until the ref draws a line. I’m sure Joelinton will do the same but it’s not the 70’s or 80’s when tackles were GBH. It’s not even the 90’s, you’re not allowed to do anything these days. Ref just needs to remember that.

I’m sure VVD will be in the refs ear reminding him this is an emotionally charged game and that he needs to protect our players. Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see a very early yellow card to set a marker.

Just look at the smugness in that post…..

Very little there that is actual evidence of him having g the intent to actually hurt players.

Throwing players to the ground happens every game by loads of different players, even our own, but is terrible evidence of intent to hurt.

Why have you included an example of him not getting booked for fouls as evidence of intent to hurt?

Jeez Fred, you’ve got to do better than this copy and paste effort if you’re going to label players.

The issue is he seems to get away with his behaviour quite a bit. I’m not worried about physicality I’m just worrying about the emotions of their players getting the better of them the way it always seems to at Goodison Park.

Who knows, could be a drab stalemate. We do need to start fast.

That should be good enough. Bradley will probably be on bench too if Gomez breaks down. Stick with Gomez for now.

Palace are signing another CB too, so fully expect Guehi to get done as well.
