Any possible theory falls flat if we don't win against Villa tbh
It's a must win game

But does Slot know his best team to start against Villa?

Picks itself really, given the injuries.
Looks like
Mama
Bradley Konate VVD Robbo
Grav or Szob ——— Jones
———— Wirtz
Salah ——— Ekitike ——— Gakpo
Maybe he’s going to change something in a major way though, like the formation.

I wanna see the 4-4-2 again with either:
Mo/Ekitike
Isak/Ekitike
Days of Salah outwide on touchline probably need to stop.
posted 2 days, 20 hours ago
I thought the 343 formation looked better last night. The players we have at the moment are more suited to this system. We don't have the pace to play touchline wingers. Wirtz and Salah have the freedom to move in the inside channel whilst the wingbacks like Robbo and Frimpong can provide the attacking width.
posted 2 days, 20 hours ago
Problem with 3 at the back is we only have 3 CBs fit so you have to play either Endo or Robbo there if you rotate
posted 2 days, 20 hours ago
I mean it looked a bit better, but as soon as Glasner made some tweaks, we lost 0-3.
I’m not taking anything from last night really.

Is funny how some managers just can't seem to beat another manager no matter what they do.
Like how Klopp had a honking record v Ancelotti.

Utd have been eaten alive playing 3-4-3 for the best part of 12 months. Not just because the midfield 2 can't cope facing 3 most weeks, but it's a huge part of it.
Can Grav and Szobo/AMA cope better than Casemiro and Bruno? Probably. Can they cope well enough to make the system work? Really questionable imo.

Never been a fan of three at the back.
I know Slot has toyed with it in possession, dropping Grav in there and pushing the FBs on, but I’m not a fan.
So few teams in history have had success with three at the back.

For me something like this
Keeper
Back 4
Dom ---- Grav----Jones----Gakpo/Wirtz
-----------Salah----------Ekitike

That nearly made me puke Kash. No thanks.

Better than a back 3 and its what we played at Frankfurt
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
Still no.

Should go full Brodge and get the diamond out.
Grav
Szobo Mac/Jones
Wirtz
Salah Hugo
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
Diamond would get smashed by Villa. They have extreme pace wide. Play a flat four in midfield, and their runners from deep will kill us.
Ngl, I suspect we’ll be well beaten here if we concede first.
Hopefully Anfield under the lights helps.

There's hardly any runners in the team

Wirtz has excelled in a Leverkusen and Germany team with wingbacks.
I'm not a back 3 fan myself, but the recruitment team have bought fullbacks who aren't suited to a back 4 and especially in the build up phase.

I’d go the normal formation, but with a bit more discipline. I don’t really want to see Grav in their half for example.
I think Szob needs to play instead of Jones, we miss Trent’s passing from deep so, so much in transition.
I’d like to see full back go on the OUTSIDE. Fvck knows what these inside runs are about, I don’t understand that really. I get it creates an overload on the CBs, but it continually leads to a loss of possession. Create the overload on their FB instead and drag the CB wider that way imo.

This. Play Grav as a DM. A proper anchor to the team.

Slot wants both flanks covered with one player and doesn't want overlaps from the fullbacks. His fullbacks need to play like midfielders in possession which the current ones can't do.
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
Yeah Pep's influence is too strong with Slot. He always wants an extra man in defence and midfield...fack knows for what because there's hardly any pressure on the ball when we lose it
posted 2 days, 18 hours ago
Do wonder if we mis profiled some of the summer signings. I had thought based on the fullbacks we would effectively have them playing as wingbacks with Grav dropping in to form a back 3 in possession, but Kerkez has largely been the one forming said back 3.
If that's what Slot wanted then someone like Hincapie would have been a better LB signing.
