Overhyped by whom? If you mean the media then how exactly is that the player's fault? Did Gerrard force them to write it? If the journalists wrote the "hype" then how does it make Gerrard self obsessed?

Haha! This guy should write or The Mail!

this is true, some of the journos truly are deluded.

All those football writers that voted Gerrard as THE BEST PLAYER IN PL this season should not be allowed to vote again. even better, they should be banned from wasting anymore space in sport columns, they are obviously clueless on the subject they write

I'm not Gerarrd's biggest fan but he's been great for Liverpool this season, anyone stating otherwise is just bitter.

On paper Liverpool should have been nowhere near City or Chelsea this season and a large reason they were is Gerrard. No he hasn't been perfect but to write an entire article claiming he's been overrated is pathetic.

Many fans sympathise with the man because he's been captaining one of the biggest sides in England for over a decade and has yet to win a title. He was unlucky, Liverpool played some great football and were also naive at times and Gerrard is partly responsible for both.

Why is it so hard for fans to just accept when a rival has done well. The reason so many United fans 'hate' Gerrard is because they find him a threat and only a couple weeks ago the very real possibility of Liverpool and Gerrard winning the league was a horrible thought.

Careful Elvis, you'll upset them. Then you'll be sorry.

Overhyped by the media. He's had a decent season, but no more than that. As I said the article is over the top in parts.

I agree with the article in some ways!

His best years are behind him, and yet it's not his dail the gave his all but it want enough, we go again!

posted on 13/5/14

He's been an excellent captain, captaining a pretty inexperienced side to within 2 points of the title. Yes elements of the media may have over hyped him but he still had a very good season, especially for a 33 year old playing in a fairly new role.

His set piece play has been exceptional this season, people like to squash stats but 13 goals and 13 assists whoever you are is still impressive.

When I saw him give that speech after the city game I thought to myself "ooh steven, you're setting yourself up for a fall there lad"

What the hell is the big deal with a captain making a team talk?

This happens all the time before and after game. Just because the Sky cameras intruded doesn't make that any different.

posted on 13/5/14

He had a great season

Toure had a better one though and he is the better player

Otherwise the rest of the article is twaddle

Behave, that was all for the camera's, you give teamtalks in the dressing room before games, that way you don't end up looking ridiculous.

this is true, he could have made the exact same speech in the dressing room after the game and have the exact same effect on players. He choose to do it on the pitched knowingly it will be broadcasted and be highlighted, it backfired

It shows how little you know then. He has had better than a decent season. He has been overhyped by some parts of the media, however you do not get 13 goals and 13 assists and lead a relatively inexperienced team through a title challenge and only have a decent season. Whilst you may not like the player because of who he plays for do not allow your myopic and slightly biased view take away from the reality that he had a very good season. He wasn't the best player in the league by any means, but he did have a very good season.

gerrard is very inconsistant with TV cameras on the pitch

when it goes for him he kisses them and wants to do a huddle and say something motivational that the world can hear.

when it goes against him he likes to push it away and cries about invasion of privacy.

I have never know a footballer who has cultivated such a relationship with on pitch cameras.

He is an attention seeking megalomaniac who is responsible for Liverpool's failure to win the PL.

He could have done but he felt at the time to do it there. Whether it was for the cameras we'll never know. How has it backfired though? If you mean that we didn't win the league then I don't see how that even relates to the huddle. We didn't win the league because ultimately we were as good as Man City. It had nothing to do with the huddle.

As Man Utd fans I expect better. This is the sort of comment you'd expect from a Spurs or Everton fan. You know what it takes to win a title. You won many, you also lost quite a few. The best team wins. It's the best team over the course of 38 games. It's not to do with huddles, a pre or post match team talk, it's not to do with a single slip either. But you all know that already don't you.

A large percentage of which have come from pens and dead balls.

I think he's a fantastic player - easily the best at his club of his generation. The kissing cameras and huddle thing don't mean much to me, just what modern footballers seem to do. I'm completely neutral about DJ's getting chinned in general, whether they play the record they've been asked for or not. Winning the title would have been a fitting end of career moment for a great player, just like Robbo's in '93.

That slip was fckng hilarious though.

When I said backfired i was referring to the fact that Gerrard said "dont let it ****** slip" and then slipped a week later and effectively gave the title to city, which made him the a laughing stock for most of non LFC fans during last few weeks

As for the huddle, I thought it was odd at the time. Captains dont do pep talks at the pitch just after a game. He could have done it in the dressing room. Whether it was for the cameras we'll never know. LFC fans can say its not the case, rival fans can equally assume he did it solely for the cameras
