I know what you mean, but funny thing is I couldn't tell you one thing he's been involved in that I've watched.

Wish they'd get Stuart Lee to do one of these World Cup build up shows.

Better still, have him co-commentate during the matches.

Stuart lee????

What a pompous depressing khunt.

What a crap thread full of crap posters talking crap. Yeah, you, you're crap and so is your favourite thing. Whatever that thing is it's the crappest version of that thing. In fact that type of thing is probably crap and only liked by gayers and liberals.

John Bishop funny!? - He is the singularly worst stand up comedian in the country. He has made a good living out of accentuating his accent and telling the dullest of dull 'stories' about himself. The reviews of his last tour are truly horrendous.

I quite like Jack Whitehall but I've never thought of him as a wannabe lad before! If anything he's the opposite, plays up the hopeless posh boy angle.

He's not brilliant but he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously which I like.

Noel Fielding is a weird one - think he's brilliant on Buzzcocks but can't stand the Mighty Boosh.

Comedy ey, it's almost as if different people find different things funny. With the exception of people getting hit in the nuts - that's always funny.

John Bishop only has a career because he's a scouser with eerily white teeth.

Simon Astell or something...Liberals lap up this Quirky, Inoffensive humour i think its awful..Lamaar was brilliant on buzzcocks and brilliant comedy writers like Chris Morris get banned off TV its a joke.

Chris Morris hasn't been banned from TV.

I liked Amstell after a while on the Buzzcocks, but he annoyed me at firs just purely by not being Mark Lamarr.

John Bishop would be a funny mate to have a beer with, not good enough as comedian. Like most he gets away with very average material because he’s a likeable character and has a regional accent (or you need some other quirk).

Lee Mack – no idea either.

comment by Sömeday_693 - Källström will be our salvation (U8892) “Noel Fielding's Self-indulgent pseudo-surrealism.” Spot on. Don’t particularly mind him but the Mighty Boosh is a load of $$$$, I’m sure people watch that as a fashion statement with their trousers rolled up.

The biggest surfer in ‘comedy’? That smug, self satisfied and not funny at all Marcus effing Brigstocke. What a massive kent.

The lesson from this thread would seem to be to find your own humour in every day life and stop paying for 'scheduled' laughs?

I like Jack Whitehall, I didn't want to but I do.

John Bishop is mediocre.

Generally the best stand ups don't get on TV much though because they are not populist enough.

TV stand up is always watered down.

Somebody mentioned earlier that they blamed Ben Elton. I would tend to agree as he was one of the first alternative comedians along with Alexi Sayle.

I was never taken in by these "comedians" as I understood from the outset that the word ALTERNATIVE literally meant NOT FUNNY.

Back on topic though, I don't mind Jack Whitehall but strangely I find Russell Howard's brand of toilet humour as un-funny as Ben Elton. I also think Markus Brigstock comes across as a pretentious public school educated príck.

Or maybe it's just that at 50+ I'm just too old to get this new form of comedy.

If you laugh, it's because you don't get the joke.
