Only 3% of the players in the 32 World Cup squads are English.
I blame the foreigners.

Every Russian squad member plays in Russia.
well, at least we have players involved to keep up watching that should have a good run. Belgium, France and Brazil should do well in theory so at least we'll have Spurs boys to keep an eye on since our English lot have been tosh this year (except Walker)

Why?
Belgium have nearly 50% PL players in their squad.
What you also need to consider there are a lot of pretty poor players in the WC, some shocking ones actually. Many of the Africa, Asian and Central American teams often have a few house hold name players but end up making up the numbers with some dross, it’s not unusual for even a team with a population and football pedigree of Nigeria to have players from the lower English divisions. They’ll be WC teams with some players from tin pot leagues. It’s not because the PL is not good enough, it is because many of the players are not good enough for the PL.
Australia, Iran, Algeria, Nigeria, Costa Rica, Honduras, Bosnia, Greece, Russia, USA, Ecuador, South Korea, Japan, Ghana, Cameroon
These teams make up almost half of the WC and there aren't huge numbers of players from these countries in any of the top leagues in the world. Think this goes a long way to explaining the low PL %
Not a movie star

They are all better than England.
