He problem is a midfield 3 containing mata and fabregas....surely not enough legs and defensive protection ?

Apparantly lvg likes one defensive mid, one box to box and one CAM

1) Its an educated guess considering the system he used at Bayern

............

He has played many systems, so it is just a guess, not an educated one.

..............

2)Fabregas could fit into Barcelona system if he could get to play in his favorite position

..............

An assumption. Not necessarilly a correct one. As it stands he isn't good enouigh to play in his position, so he clearly doesn't fit the system he is being asked to play in. Yes?

Cesc stats at barca

15 goals and 18 assists last season

17 goals and 16 assist season before

17 goals and 11 assist season before that

That is while not playing in his preferred position in a system that doesnt suit him. Id love it if he did not fit in with that kind of stats

Good players fit into any system.

No they don't.

Fabregas fits at Barca just that he isn't playing where he would like and Barca aren't massively reliant on him so are happy to sell. Saying that doesn't he have the most assists in La Liga over the past 2 seasons, since joining Barca.

He isn't exactly what we need but I do think he would still improve us immensely, he began his career as a more traditional CM and he has been asked to play more forward at Barca because of the players they already have. Whether he could slot back into the CM role I honestly couldn't say, I'd be happy if we got him because he is a brilliant player but also because I'm not really sure who we are interested in who actually would offer what we require in midfield, I am worried. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

he isn't good enouigh to play in his position because he is not better than Xavi and Iniesta, If Xavi and Iniesta is the benchmark for CMs we are going to buy, we wont be buying anyone

Fabregas can play as 2 in the middle
Fabregas can play as 3 in the midfield as well.

We are making the same mistake with Modric
-------------------------------------

It seems that LVG wants 2 physical CMs for his system. Cesc is more an attacking CM - which I think he have covered.

He wasn't. He wasn't at his best but I thought he did ok. Overall this season he has been excellent for Real.

Modric certainly was not pants in the CL final

Well, he obviously doesn't fit in, does he.

And I really wouldn't go by stats playing for Barcelona in La Liga.

Yes they look good, but they are really warped beyonmg belief.

Messi and Ronaldo score over 100 goals each season between them in La liga. You would be hard pressed to find five strikers who can manage that in the prem.

His stats at Arsenal weren't too dissimilar.

I know, I'm messing with SLM.

Modric was indirectly responsible for Ramos equalizer.

TBF Messi and Ronaldo are the 2 best players on the planet by a country mile. You put either one in City's line up and I reckon you could see them getting close to 50 goals a season.

SLM

His assist stats yes, goal statsn nowhere near bar one season.

I like Fabregas, just not sure he is a player LVG is looking for. We will soon find out. If we don't show any interest, you will know he isn't.

No one can perform on a windy night at Stoke.

The system at barca didnt quite suit him I agree but the main reason he didnt excel at barca is because he didnt get to play in his best position. he couldnt do that because he is not better than Xavi and Iniesta

I dont know why you dont want him, Cesc is exactly the sort of a CM we need, he is one player that can take on the mantle from scholes. PL proven. Although we will need a DM like bary to partner him if we get him

Cesc and Schweinsteiger would be a great combo ....

And that is my point.

It doesn't matter how great an individual player you are. If you don't fit into a system then it usually doesn't work out for you.

Kagawa is a classic example of this.

Now we are seeing someone adding some sense. As I said earlier, or on an different thread, stick a Robbo type player with him, and we do have an Uncle Robert.
