Very happy with Diego Costa signing

Has Remy done much more than Ba did before he went to Chelsea?

As for Costa, I think he'll be good for you. Not quite as good as he was for Athleti, where everything went through him, but still decent.

What about Lukaku, Superb? Shouldn't we ideally keep him as a second choice striker.

posted on 2/7/14

sad truth about our striker situation is that since Drogs in 09/10 we haven't really had 1 worth mentioning

Anelka, Torres, Ba, Sturridge was probably the closest we came but look how that turned out

my immediate thoughts on Costa are that he could hardly be much worse than the donkeys we had to put up with last season! think he'll be decent anyway

we won;t be losing Torres either, think Ba will go. imo there was something to be said for giving Eto'o an extension but that ship's sailed now

Remy i don;t think would be a good signing, strikes me as a player who works best as the big fish in a small pond, much less comfortable playing as a glorified squad player at a bigger club. not actually that dis-similar to Lukaku

what happened to the Mandzukic rumours?

I'd get rid of Lukaku, especially if we can find someone to pay around £25 million as that would nearly cover the fee for Costa.

Not sure. Good striker and I'd definitely take him at Chelsea.

Superb, depends who we sell to. wouldn't want him to go to Spurs for instance as i think he'd be banging them in for them

sed him back to Everton to try and get Barkley

Costa and Lukaku for me ,with Torres as back up.Mandzukic is a type of player who would fit in well also,Lets see what Jose decides .

i'd rather keep on Ba than Torres i have to say

frankly it's a disgrace Torres is still at the club, anywhere else and he;d have been shown the door 3 years ago

^ This, I am more than happy to see how this pans out for a season.

I am so used to us buying under performing strikers I almost expect the worst

We need a decent back up striker and none of our current ones seem to fit he bill.

Torres will stay and I actually believe he should play in Europe his scoring record there is good.

Lukaku seems destined to go, Bamford needs a PL loan. I just hope we don't go with Costa, Torres and Ba

Costa isn’t the greatest striker in the world by any stretch of the imagination but he will improve us no end as he is a goal scorer and a physical presence in the box, exactly what we need. Many fans were calling for Costa in recent months and now seem to have gone cold on him, I suspect this is for two reasons: a poor showing at the World Cup and almost a self protection not wanting to get carried away given our recent history with strikers.

It is interesting listening to Atletico fans, they are loathed to see Courtois leave but are more indifferent to Costa’s departure, partly because they’ll get a decent fee and they have a great record in replacing prolithic strikers. In fact I’d love them to take Lukaku on loan for a season as part of the deal.

To have proper goal socrer will be a massive relief and don’t discount the positive impact he’ll have on the attack in general, not just goals. Torres is a striker who hides when things aren’t going well, then makes poor decisions trying to do too much on the ball to make up for it. What Costa will bring us is movement off the ball, positive runs in to the box. The likes of Hazard and Oscar will find they’ve got a target to look for and can finally pass in to space rather than feet or holding up the ball and slowing down play. Costa will also occupy centre-half’s allowing Hazard and co. space to attack with the ball at their feet.

As a fan base we need to collectively wake ourselves out of this.

We've had many good strikers before and we will have good strikers again.

The Torres saga was just an unfortunate and expensive blip.

when we haven't had a proper striker in nearly 4 years you have to see where we're coming from though! thnk bluedroog has it spot on

step 2 will be making sure that we have some prpoer backup to Costa, and not just the Torres/Ba trash we had last season

Exactly Superb, I find fans (sometimes understandably even if it isn’t always logical) so reactionary to past events, very few wanted Ancelotti and manager after Scolari, it was so obvious people were drawing some irrational comparison to foreign managers with no experience in the PL despite the fact they are worlds apart, very, very different appointments.

Same with England, we go for Sven, had a good record but of course when things don’t go as we hope he’s a scapegoat, people moan he’s foreign, then we get an Englishman in S.M, everyone realises he’s carp, back to Capello, big European name, things go a bit sour, back to an Englishman, England are appealing, no doubt we’ll be back for a foreign coach as the swinging reaction continues.

I'm probably as guilty as anyone of this.

Just think that as fans we need to slap ourselves about the face a bit and realise that we can have and do actually deserve good striker/strikers

Mandzukic's agent said a few days back that his future would wait til after the world cup. So I'd expect that to start up again soon.

I think that the key to shifting Torres is making him realise his place, having Lukaku as second striker will make him feel comfortable IMO as compared to signing someone like Mandzukic.

The important thing is that we have Costa/Fabregas done. From here another striker and a left back should complete the squad with other loanees returning.

posted on 2/7/14

In Costa and Fabregas we’ve actually signed two players who we clearly had a need for and essentially complete out starting XI, a quality left back would give us another option and ability to reshuffle the back four but beyond that now it is really about depth. I hope for one or two more but really I feel in the two we’ve singed they bring enough to take our team up a clear level and I’d already feel confident of making a serious title challenge. I’d feel more comfortable with a clear and quality second choice striker though.

posted on 2/7/14

Bluedroog I agree.

A top class second choice striker would make me feel a lot better as well even if it's just because it relegates Torres to third choice.

Torres is a great striker to have in the squad for Credit Card Cup games and early stage Europa ties if we get knocked out of the CL group stages.

Then we will have no use for him next season since that ain't happening. We release him then...

Torres will have a better season with Fabregas behind him. I actually believe that as well.

I'm happy with signings Costa! He could be brilliant, he could flop, any one could flop. But we needed a tall, strong, top team proven goalscorer and that's what we have signed! I just hope Lukaku can be 2nd choice and rotate well with Costa and there's not any problems. But either way we need 2 top strikers and Costa & Lukaku would be great choices! and then Torres/Ba is a decent 3rd choice.
