Smith to Milwall?

The general feeling around Twitter is that it's around £500k. Sounds about right but just rumour. Earlier this summer a local reporter was reporting that 'out of favour Smith' was about to join Huddersfield. Maybe other clubs are of the perception that Smith is out of favour and can get him on the cheap? Personally I think if he was late in his career £500k would be fine but I reckon there's more to come from him and therefore would want more than £1m, which Millwall do not have.

Don't think he would join us to be a bench warmer?

with vaughan and wells we have the best forward line in the division, and should jv keep fit for a whole season we will probably be in the playoffs

Been after him all summer apparently.

Can't see that he's on big wages or command a big fee, therefore can't see Cellino accepting a bid right now.

He would be good foil for wells shud jv be injured and we would welcome him shud it be true

at 25 he will still be improving, and better than the dead wood we have in paterson and stead who need moving on

why do millwall fans ALWAYS claim to be in for the play-offs. Odds-on relegation fodder again, got lucky last year

Waltzing

Quick question, who's board do you spend the most time on, ours or yours?

Our forums dead these days pro...and with you being our local rivals, and a bit of a soap opera..im just joining in

Cowdung, locals you may be, rivals you're not. Forget Smith, take Hunt. Take Austin. Take White. Take Tonge. Take Kenny. Clayton's ambitious so we'll have him back after his "loan" to a lower profile team.

I reckon Smith will be going to Millwall first game of the season.

Whatever

You lot were jumping around like you had won the champions league at your spot

Smith fits in with Cellino's type of player - young, cheap and is hopefully only going to get better and demand a bigger fee if and when he decides to sell him.

Money not needed. Another striker off the books not needed. Smith young and hungry (and won't be on massive wages).

I cant' see him swapping Leeds for either Millwall or Udders.

to be fair, it was the only time the players turned up all season for 45mins so the reaction was for that rather than the opposition on the day

Wells & Vaughan the best partnership in the didision?

You having a laugh?

One is a walking sick note, the other has played a handful of games at this level.

I like Smith, but I'd rather we didn't play lump balls for the entire game while he's on, Millwall/Hudders can take him.

You are more than welcome on our board Waltzing, its just we have a defence mechanism against u as u r usually very tribal. Unlike Champers, u don't pay many complements to us.

Oh and Wolfswinkle and Hooper is the best forward lineup.

Surely Hunt & Morison would trump any other forward line

I think you will find I generally join in in a positive way as regards the takeover and stuff and ground re purchase

And there lies your issue. Playing a tall player doesn't mean you have to hoof it up to him.

Pro, Smith is effective in the air, not so on the ground, Harrogate has a good point, Smith is sort of player you have if hoofball is your aim.

posted on 10/7/14

You don't have to lump it to him, but he can't play any other way and never will.

Smith's goal against Derby just smacked of hoofball.....

He's still learning. At the start of the season he couldn't jump. Hoofball was down to McDermott the master tactician. We were supposed to be employing wingers I recall....

posted on 10/7/14

How is he still learning the basics at 25? He improved as in he grew in confidence throughout the season and did his job well, but if we want to move away from hoofball, we need to move on from 6'6 focal point.

posted on 10/7/14

doesn't have to be hoofball - try wingers crossing to the centre of the box for Smith to score from

posted on 10/7/14

He was playing against better defenders in a supposedly better team with a supposedly better coach at the helm.

Did I say basics? You're putting words in my mouth there.

I agree if you make him the focal point with little work done on the approach play then yes hoofball is the likely outcome.

Lee Chapman was a big bugga but I don't recall seeing hoofball week in week out. We arguably had one of the best midfield quartets of that era in situ so clearly they weren't bypassed.

You're blaming Smith's apparent one dimensional offering on the player rather than the tactics we were employing.
