Though they have just organised a new friendly system based on leagues now, where after all the games are complete during friendly weeks, they will get promoted and relegated.

Eh what now?

Oh ffs I thought that was a bad dream I'd had. First this comical euro comp with everyone except NI qualifying, now this nonsense

Ha, yeah, not gonna shoot it down yet but can't say i understand either.

Not sure how lesser teams benefit. If its a league promotion, relegation system that implies that the good sides will face each other and the bad sides will face each other.

Anyone think it would be more interesting if all draws for all cup competitions were blind with no seedlings.

You get who you get.

FIFA nor UEFA will never return to no seeding because the major tournaments are all about making money, and they make money from the big countries with big fan bases qualifying.

Latvia vs Norway is not going to draw in the punters, or the sponsors.

As for the world rankings, they are an irrelevance anyway apart from on deciding the seeded teams for the World Cup.

Costa Rica will soon slip down the rankings again, like South Korea and Greece did in their moments in the sun.

People get all excited about the rankings and how they should be different, but in the grand scheme of things they are about as relevant as FHM's hot 100.

I have these debates all the time, and being Welsh I have more of an argument than most when it comes to things like this. You see, when I see the way teams qualify for the world cup I think it is so unfair, how can a country like Wales ever hope to get anywhere when they have to keep playing superior nations just to qualify. If Wales went through the Asian or Oceania qualifying route they would have a much better chance of qualifying, Wales will never get up the ranking's when they have to play Germany, Holland, Russia, Belgium ect to qualify, and I think that the days of seeing Ireland Northern Ireland and Scotland at major tournaments are long gone also. For me I think the qualifying for major tournaments should be done on a fairer ranking system, all teams ranked in the top twenty have 4 groups of five then the next twenty teams and so on, they way it is now, Wales will never be ranked above 50 and as a result will never qualify for a major tournament.

I hope we lose our seeding.

Perhaps 4 years of failing to qualify for competitions might force the FA's hand.

Lets be honest here though, it's not as if you do not have the players, how the fook RH got the job in the first place is beggars belief, FFS he almost got one of the biggest sides in Britain relegated and he was trying to convince the fans that it was the best they could expect.

i must admit i do find it hard to understand how Scotland are only a few places behind England in the rankings.

So Costa Rica have a few good games and they move up twelve places ahead of the likes of England and Mexico! It's crazy. A team who's best player is probably Ruiz who wouldn't even get in the England squad.

Why is it arrogant?

To suggest Costa Rica shouldnt be moving up the rankins because a "few good games" is arrogant. To suggest they shouldn't be ahead of England is arrogant again. What have England shown to prove they should be above Costa Rica? Absolutely nothing. Re your Ruiz comment which again was shockingly arrogant, having no stand out player doesn't make a team weak, they showed during the world cup that they are a solid TEAM.

Oh and by the way, they out qualified Mexico by finishing 7 points ahead of them, hence why they are above them.

posted on 18/7/14

Yes I know you think it's arrogant but why? Do you understand what arrogant means?

I think you're a tad confused.

posted on 18/7/14

Well Mexico finished above them in their first group. Mexico then had a poor final group.

But as I kept saying, this isn't about Costa Rica, I just used them as an example as before the current rankings were released they were a full twelve places below and after a few games they rose. I don't know why people keep mentioning their qualifying, their qualifying didn't play any part in them moving up twelve places, those few games I talked about did.

What I'm asking is do you think the ranking system is the best way at the moment or could it be better?

posted on 18/7/14

What is not arrogant about it? Acting as if a team doesn't deserve to be moving up the rankings because of a "few good games" and not actually having any idea how they've been doing over the past 2 years. That's arrogant

posted on 18/7/14

I do have an idea what they've done over the past few years. I spent all last night looking at it but that's completely irrelevant to what I was asking. There is no arrogance whatsoever, you clearly don't understand the meaning of the word.

Are you going to comment on the actual article or just use Costa Rica to whine about misconceived arrogance?

thats probably ignorance, not arrogance

That's definitely ignorance. It's a shame I didn't spend all last night looking it up, making him wrong again but OK.

What a grumpy head.
