My head hurts.

Question is, who's more likely to achive their goal?
--------

Isreal! they have been pretty successful so far.

"It doesn't matter if they state it or not, that IS what they are doing."

Absolute;y incorrect. The Israelis have on many occasions agreed to restrict the growth of new settlements only to have the Palestinians renege on the agreements reached.

this has been, as in this case, the tactic of the Palestinians. They create a crisis, get the Israelis to agree to certain things, then renege on their part of the deal. They have been doing this for fifty or sixty years and it is no surprise they are doing it now.

Curly,

Lex does make an excellent point, as his is a religious solution and not a political one.

Lex.

I would say the side with the largest military and the most powerful allies. Israel.

Dal

Would probably need to something more like 53 state solution knowing that lot. Loads of factions in every Arab country, all looking for their own self-determination.

Could end up a 300 state solution.

300!!!??? FFS. that'll get Leo into the debate .

That's all we need.

Lex,

Is their a vacancy for Foreign Secretary in Britain at the moment?

Shoot them off your CV.

lex, agree with your sentiments but unlike the Italian scenario, the religious icons you speak of are sometimes within spitting distance (literally ) of each other. Also there are so many of them related to different groups (Life of Brian is not even close) that it would be impossible to satisfy any demands on either side.

Rickboy,

Have you seen those guys fighting? Greek Orthodox and Egyptian Orthodox Christians beating the shít out of each other while "worshiping."

Jesus is spinning in his grave.

As with most, I am not fully au fait with all the goings on in the Middle East. What does hack me off is those people who have read a few books and think they have the knowledge to then preach at others. Unless you are there in the heads and minds of the protagonists then you can't really know all of the ins and outs.

There is so much paranoia, hatred, self interest and ego involved that a solution is unlikely.

Both sides have their agendas, both sides have their legitimate arguments, both sides use propaganda, both sides are willing to kill with impunity.

I hope there is a resolution, but I don't hold out much hope.

Dal, according to "history" Jesus got up out of his grave and went upstairs, agree that he will be spinning somewhere though with Mohammed, Buddha, Krishna etc. (if they exist)

Even he was faked off with Israel 2000 years ago.

Aesop. You have hit the nail on the head. the "protagonists" (which don't generally involve the man on the street) have their political agendas and don't give a monkeys about anyone or anything else. They are generally politically driven and self serving. The more serious the situation the more they can "game" it.

It is for this reason that I hate (no exaggeration) almost all politicians, lawyers, activists, religious proponents, civil rights people and anyone associated with a radical group (terrorists).

My belief is that humankind is generally loving and humanitarian left to its own devices, it is only when the insinuations and machinations of the above groups come into play that we exhibit our truly detestable side.

Unfortunately, short of executing all of the above, I have no solutions.
