It seems we have all forgotten about Carvalho in the midst of this vidal love in. We need Carvalho, you do not go back to the pinnacle of football with the likes of Fletcher. We better go out and purchase before transfer deadline.

Watch for Louis Van Gaal tactical switch

Hernandez doesn't seem to be on the same page as Rooney and Mata in this system.

Even though I think he's a better striker than Welbeck, the latter seems to work better in this system based off what we've seen so far.

As a neutral, I have to say that Liverpools tactics have been spot on.

Some of the United lads don't have the quality to adhere to LVGs philosophy.

Potential leading top scorer or not, Rooney does not have the quality for LVG's philosophy.

As for the 3-5-2 system think we all agree its one of if not the hardest to use efficiently. I admire LVG for giving it a go, will take time though and probably a few players more suited to it if its his long term system.

Don't think Utd are playing it too badly be more worried about the panicking when playing the ball out from the back, that in itself may be new to UTD players as it was for us under BR.

They are discussing it now, in England you will get pressed by almost every team in the EPL.

Rooney never plays well against them. It's well documented that top managers etc say you must build from the back. So we sell Rio, Vidic and Evra...over 2000 games between them. He needs two new TOP defenders and a midfielder. He started this job too late and I may be in a minority that thinks we could still struggle without a couple of top acquisitions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Based on what? Has our defence looked weak today?

I am getting tired of this. Evans, Jones and Smalling have done nothing to suggest that they cannot step up throughout their careers and throughout this pre-season. Even Blackett and Keane have looked good in the system. One experienced head but there is nothing to panic about.

Was thinking of a game changing sub and nothing came to mind. That seems to me more of a worry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
mmm yes..Jones gave a pen away,..the back three don't look assured or comfortable on the ball. What game are you watching ? Curbishley and Francis saying exactly that...

the system isn't bad but the players need to be the type that can give and go, Herrera passes moves but doesn't get the ball back

These two are annoying. Don't understand the situation, clearly know nothing about our prev games

Not really.

Most of the teams in the bottom half sit back and try and catch you out on the counter.

possession needs to be kept with an eye on pressing, passing back to the defenders and keeping possession isn't pressure and LFC can sit back with the lead

posted on 5/8/14

Rooney need to get further forward and mata needs to drop deeper. those two got the no10 position bit muddled up imo. need to clear each other's roles up

posted on 5/8/14

Most of that defence haven't played. I reckon Van Gaal will make 5 or 6 subs.

any subs?

nah that changed a lot if last season anything to go by im afraid. Teams learnt from Swanseas/Southamptons success with it. I expect more teams to highlight it this season too.

Rooney needs to drop down a bit and emulate welbecks style. Hernandez is totally useless except up front.

If last season is anything to go by what I said is true.

It's only really the top teams that press from the front, and even Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Spurs don't do that.

posted on 5/8/14

There is way too much optimism. It needed a clear out and still does ! Unfortunately the ones that needed to go haven't as yet: Nani, Fellaini, Anderson, Valencia, Young for starters !
LVG's Dutch team were quite boring barring one game and he will find it tough

maybe its because we watched 2 separate teams with different styles, now you play out from the back perhaps you will face what we face.
