Jeez! Arguing about what is a pretty meaningless accolade. It's something that is nice to win, but it really doesn't mean all that much.
How it is a stupid comment? You didn't even answer it, would you rather win today or against palace if you had a choice? The community shield means nothing and has no value as a trophy, I'm not gonna change my mind just because we won it today...
Cannon, that's not what he's asking. Given the choice, would you rather win today and lose next week or lose today and win your opening fixture? Clearly the answer is both, but in an either or situation what would the answer be?
That's all, it's putting level of importance on to the games. Everyone on here has said congratulations to arsenal and that you deserved to win. Myself and Loz both said before the game we thought you would. We can't pretend to be more gutted than we actually are though!
I am pretty sure if City had won it they would be waxing lyrical all night.
"Ripley, you need to get out of your house more / laid.
It's not a trophy, it's a shield.
Vito, why are you wasting your time with this philosophical nonsense debate. The points of this argument are pathetic as is the running commentary. Ripley is a little virgin who is determined to win at least something today after his team were embarrassed and he got spanked on FIFA.
The reality is, City and their fans thought they'd walk all over us today and are feeling a little bit upset and surprised at the 3-0 humiliation. There's no need to be mentioning how many players were missing for you blue bumboys - Despite the commentators failing to mention it on our behalf, we too missed many key players."
----------------------------------------------------------------
You can't buy class what a whopper
Cannon, answer the question.
I doubt that they would have. If my fellow Arsenal fans want to celebrate the Community Shield, then that's on them. Arsenal fans have taken a lot of punishment over the years, nothing wrong with dishing it back out, I guess.

We want to win both. Why should it be an either or situation? Football is not like that. It's a silly choice tbh. And how do you know that winning next week will guarantee you winning the league? At least winning today guarantees that we won another trophy, and that's my point.
Cannon,
The beauty of this site is that all previous comments. If you go back to when we played Chelsea, both sets of fans said the first game of the season was more important and the reaction afterwards was, on both sides, muted compared to the corresponding pl fixture.
I had a lot of work to do today, I chose to do it during the day and miss the bulk of the game, catching only the last 20 minutes, rather than spend all night doing it. Think that says it all really.
Cannon,
It doesn't, that's not the point, it is that finishing position in the league is more important to most than winning the community shield. I can't work out if you are wumming now to be honest?

Cannon, it's a hypothetical question. why won't you answer it? Is it because it may betray you real view?
The much simpler hypothetical question is, would you have rather won today or lost.
I think people started hyping up the super cups when Barca had that season when they won 6 trophies, even though 3 of them were pretty pointless/minor super cups.

Absolutely no need for this comment.
I've already said that I would prefer it if we (City) had won today. I've also congratulated Arsenal on their win, stating that they were the better team throughout and thoroughly deserved the victory.
I'm just not going to dress up the CS into something it isnt'.

Winning the league is more important than winning the Shield. But I would take winning a cup final over winning the first match of the season as there is far less guarantee that you will win the league in the end, and there is always time to recover even if you lose the first league match whereas you don't get a second chance in a cup final.

Vito,
Insightful comment. I think that the trophy is somewhat insignificant, however, it is always nicer to win than to lose. Had City won the game, I know that Boris "stinky" and his small crowd of cheap shot artists would have been crowing and slamming the Gunners. Instead they are currently in hiding.
City has a great team and the REAL season begins next week-end. In the meantime, for better or for worse, Arsenal won today's game!
"But I would take winning a cup final over winning the first match of the season as there is far less guarantee that you will win the league in the end, and there is always time to recover even if you lose the first league match whereas you don't get a second chance in a cup final."
B0llocks. So if Arsenal lose next weekend, and miss out on the title by three points you'll pat yourself on the back and say "oh well at least we have the Shield"...
Are you on the Arsenal board by any chance?
Vito,
Everyone has already said they would rather have won, of course they would have. All people are saying is we are less bothered about losing today than we would be in losing in a week, and that we won't overreact to how poor we played today as it isn't a good indicator of how the season will pan out (and I mean that for both teams).
Again, I don't see the problem with that and I don't know what people expect us to say? Make up that we are all far more upset about it than we are? Why on earth would we do that, the mass hysteria on this site at times is bad enough as it is!
Fair enough cannon, most fans I know would say otherwise, but you are entitled to that view. Again, as multiple city fans have already said on this thread including myself, congratulations, you deserved to win today.
Cannon you would rather win the Emirates Cup than the opening League game?
