Wow. I don't get why they do this sometimes. I'm not gonna get an x box just to play this so that's one sale they're not getting with many more to come. As an owner of tomb raider remastered I'm mildly insulted by this tbh.

It might be a timed exclusive, I'm not sure if they've announced the details yet.

I wonder how much Microsoft have to pay for this, they're taking away of half of the potential buyers of this game.

That's quite surprising I'd have thought it'd at least been on PC as well

Can't see it being an xbox one exclusive. The publishers would lose so much money not doing it multi platform. Possibly timed exclusive or exclusive dlc

There's a petition, I think, to get it on PS4 as well.

For me, you can't separate Tomb Raider from the PlayStation. It's like separating Lara from Croft, or Tomb from Raider. They belong together.

Well in the last game they managed to separate the tombs & raiding from Tomb Raider, so I wouldn't put it past them...

Well this is both damning and rather surprising:

Dear Tomb Raider Community,

As you may have seen, we’ve just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox. We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal. I’d like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we’re creating at the studio.

Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we’re going all out to try and make something truly special - the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built.

Thanks,

Darrell Gallagher

Could actually be the end of Tomb Raider this, if enough people are that peed off they just won't buy any more TR's on the PS platform.

Not really for 2 reasons. Just look at CoD, or FIFA. People will always continue to buy no matter what. 2nd M$ would have compensated the publisher of TR heavily.

Think it shows how badly the latest generation of consoles are struggling for any sort of innovation or unique selling point that they have to resort to such tactics.

Ok another interesting comment today:

"Rise of the Tomb Raider may see a release on other platforms after all, as the Xbox exclusivity agreement "has a duration," according to Microsoft executive Phil Spencer."

Yeah I thought that would be the case Simon

Correct me if I'm wrong but COD and FIFA have never had an 'exclusive' release on any platform.

Certain games tend to lose their fanbase when released on an exclusive platform (oddworld for one, effers)
As it's only a timed exclusive now though, it'll make no difference at all

posted on 14/8/14

Not an exclusive a timed exclusive, Phil Spencer has confirmed that, expect to see it on PS4 and PC in the new year.

As far as I'm aware MS heavily backing RotTR meaning that you'll see it on Xbox One and 360 in Dec 2015 and PC possibly in late 2016. This actual Tomb Raider will not be on PS3 or PS4.

Sorry harrington, although no actual confirmation of it being anywhere else but the 360 and xone, we do know it is a timed exclusive for the holiday period and as such will almost certainly be released on all formats in the new year.

Nope, I think you are wrong dude. For the very reason Phil Spencer - head of xbox - has come out and said that he is excited to co-publish RotTR with Crystal Dynamics and Square Equinox. MS would not part fund a game for it to come out on a Sony platform

posted on 21/8/14

harrington, it is hard to nail down exactly what MS has paid for, but he has confirmed it is timed they do not own the IP and they will be free to do with it as they please after the deal has finished.

Make of that what you will, I don't blame Spencer for muddying the waters but if it was as simple as you suggest then i would say those waters would be a lot clearer.

Time will tell but it's a timed exclusive that basically tells you all you need to know.
