I wouldn't if they were all rubbish. But they are not, as we won the title with most of them playing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of interest which of those do you rate and think are worthy of a place in the squad?
None of them would get in city or Chelsea's imo
And they were poor that season. So they didn't have a significant impact in us winning the title as their contribution was minimal.
It's a poor argument saying such and such are good enough because a team won the title with them in the squad (especially when they were poor), because by that logic a team should never get rid of deadwood after winning the title because they won the title with said players.
And they were poor that season. So they didn't have a significant impact in us winning the title as their contribution was minimal.
We definitely won it in spite of the likes of Valencia. Not because they played.
But you are saying we won the title with at least three rubbish players. I don't buy that argument.
It is true that there are better players than all of them, but it is almost impossible to have two top players for every position.
Having two or three WC players, nine or ten good PL players, decent back ups, and most important, a good manager, gives you a chance every time.
I agree, Stretty.
This team we have now is completely different from the one that won the title - both in management and personnel - and a lot of the players that are still here aren't at the level they were at that season (RVP, Rafael and Carrick in particular).
So talking about this squad and using our title win as a marker to judge players is flawed, because of this.
But we did win the title with at least three rubbish players. You cannot get any better an example than Anderson, Young and Valencia.
Rafael, RVP and Carrick have been injured a lot, so don't know yet if they will reach that level.
But Rafael was one of our best performers last week I think.
It's because they are, or are becoming, injury prone.
So it's unlikely they'll reach that level by virtue of not being fit enough to reach that level.
And that's just three of our key players from the title win. Anderson, Young, Fletcher and Valencia's contribution that season was pathetic (or in Fletcher's case non-existent) and they've all got worse.
We now have a completely new team to the one that won the title. De Gea and Rooney are probably the only two from that side that are assured of playing every game this season.
But They aren't good back up, at all.
