Very good interview/article.

Mourinho is unique for a manager because he does exactly what is needed at a club with very few baffling decisions. A lot of other managers just seem to make weird decisions to stand out but end up coming across as pointless.

Great interview, I liked this part which I think a lot of fans look over the importance off:

I suggest to him that the Premier League cannot be won without strength, power, durability. I’m trying to find out where he sees the balance between artistry and calculation. He shows himself to be a pragmatist, free of rigid philosophies or pre-arranged ideas.

“Obviously talent is so important,” he says. “And how many points are you going to win based on talent? A lot. But how many points do you lose based on the qualities you are speaking about [character, strength]? You lose also a lot of points. So the balance is between the talent you need and these mental qualities, team qualities.”

Spot on about his comments re Liverpool, the sheer arrogance they displayed in their winning run was unbelievable. Pre match they thought they would be too much for us.

To see their dreams come crashing down was priceless.

We schooled them with our reserves

The whole welcome parade for the team bus was 100% cringe, I'd look over it if they did it every game but because they thought they were nailed on champions, I'm so glad it was us who killed their dreams.

Its actually very reassuring to hear him talk about the hype surrounding Liverpool last season and the sheer arrogance and entitlement shown by so many. But then, without all that I guess their collapse and caving in wouldn't have been so special or hilarious.

WW that's what Liverpool fans don't get. They were practically celebrating winning the league from mid March, when they say "how can fansother than Citys enjoy this collapse" are completely missing the point.

And given nearly every fan base is signing the Gerrard song completely destroys this myth that Liverpool are a national treasure.

Arsenal's annual collapses are funny at the time but then they are forgot about.

Tottenham in 2012 and Liverpool 2014 will never get old, ever.

Interesting read.

Especially the stuff about Chelsea's financial model, in relation to Mata in particular. I've always maintained there was more to that signing that him not fitting his system and that there were financial implications involved. This alludes to that.

Nice article but um 'footballistically'?!

The fact that he was not first choice and we got offered close to £40mill for him, it was a no brainer. Given our financial model, we can't say no to those things, same thing with Luiz (wasn't first choice CB anymore).
