It depends who you consider British greats
Gerrard is a true great, He's carried Liverpool for the last 10 years while players used the club as a stepping stone to bigger things , my hatred for Liverpool comes 2nd to Arsenal so I basically have no time for that in but Gerrard was some pup.
One Champions league trophy and he's great, Really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's one more than Arsenal have
Hes talking about the individual, makes me laugh how people judge it on trophies when theres 11 players in a team and the responsibility to win is on the team not individuals. Yes great individuals help massively but how many trophies would Messi win at QPR?
And the few trophies we did win that you are trying to play down Gerrard pretty much dragged the team with him as a captain and leader so yes he clearly is a all time British great.
To be fair to stevie he was carrying some real dross in his years. Liverpool only ever had two outstanding players at anyone time, defence never good enough.
He could have moved to Chelsea and mopped everything up, but he didn't.
He will be remembered more for his slip than anything else now.
His ability to hoof it only works with quick forwards.

I think Steven Gerrard can kick a football really hard, sometimes in the intended direction.
His hair is usually tidy.
He winces a lot.

Because the Liverpool gangsters said theyd knee cap him and threatened his family.
To be a great he would have to have put some decent performances in for his country as well as his club and Gerrard has never done that.
IMO Steven Gerrard will be remembered as a great player. In his prime he was better than Scholes and Lampard.

This!
Both had a longer period at top level (arguable).
Gerrard had a higher peak.
Carrick is statistically the better player. He seems to come out in Martin Tyler stats a lot to I find Carrick the most unluckiest player internationally you will ever likely to see. Gerrard is not a patch on Carrick. Gerrard has no control of tempo of games. Forcing 80 yd 100mph crossfield passes and hoping one comes off is Gerrards game now.
Carrick is a bit like Xavi Hernandez a pass master with positional sense to win the ball and protect back 4 this way and set off attacks.

Carrick was 3rd, considering Carrick mainly passes it forward it shows you how ivolved he is in the Man utd side.
Carrick made 611 interceptions and 748 tackles since 05/06 season:

22/02/2014: Michael Carrick for Manchester United against Crystal Palace (135 PASSES)

1. Michael Carrick (12961 successful passes)
This stat about Carrick creating chances will be misleading as Carrick sets off attacks, its still impressive he created 264 direct chances himself considering thats not his job.

Gerrard > Giggs by a long way.
That is in footballing terms, off the pitch neither of them are a great example.
Tyke it was telling after a couple of months or so not playing Moyes got Giggs back for Olympiakos game and 3 of his passes led up to goals in the end from his vision.

Gerrard you are an over-rated plonker. What he said to Suarez about Suarez being too good for Arsenal will never be forgiven or forgotten. I cannot abide the man.
Shearer won what....one league? And yet, he's probably among the top 3 players of the entire Premier League era. Weird post.
Suarez is too good for Arsenal
He's too good for the premiership in general
Steven Gerrard has nearly 700 first class appearances, over 100 England caps, was voted into the prem, uefa, and fifa teams of the year on multiple occasions, has umpteen individual awards whilst winning every cup competition possible being a one club man.
Will he be remembered as a British great? Yes.
Different player to Scholes, more dynamic but less able to control games. One of the best mids the prem has seen even though i detest the club/fans/city. Giggsy played for so long you must have forgot how brilliant he was 20 years ago if you think Gerrard is better than him.
Suarez showed he was too good for Liverpool by leaving didn't he?
