I've only seen Leeds play Cardiff once, a midweek league game. This would be round about 1985.
Cardiff were a struggling side in the old Div 2, and we were all over them but only managed to score once. Then who popped up to score the Cardiff equaliser - Brian Flynn. A very disappointing evening, and this was before the days of muted celebrations.
Does make you wonder what he would'ave been like if he was playing for us today.
Considering his size, straight in as a striker.
Not a bad series Stevie, roundabout Xmas you should be on Revies greats, now that would be a great read if there's any info we haven't heard or seen.
Good series Stevie....
Yeah the unforgettable John Charles, I forget the year in the 50s, but there is the unforgettable newspaper photo of the Manu keeper, forget his name, diving trying to save Charles 25 yard shot, so hard it was unforgettable...only the photo lied, the ball was hit so hard it was on its way back from hitting the net!!
I forget the score in the match, think it was 2 - 2?
I watched him a few times in the blue and gold of Leeds and was beside myself with excitement when Revie brought him back to play in the all white of Leeds!!
He was an iconic figure to the emerging Leeds team of
World Cup winner Jack Charlton, the youngsters Bremner, Hunter and Reaney.
It was one of the greatest disappointments of watching Leeds that John never got anywhere near the heights of his previous illustrious career, if he had got anywhere near his performances that were unforgettable to the Leeds fans, the team would have won more championships and cup finals I'm sure.
But the fact remains he became a legend from his time at Juventus and Leeds, not forgetting Wales.
I forget how old he was when he played his last game for Leeds, wish he could have gone on a few more years playing the football of the highest quality, with that emerging team.
They played for both sides.......
