I see what you mean dfb but lets look at it this way as well:

asaidi
Sakho
sahin
moses
aspas
alberto
borini - Sorry
allen to some extent
lovren
mugnolet to some extent
illori
markovic - was not sure of him and def no way good as suso who we r looking to get rid

Have all been not good enough. His signings on the whole unfortuneately have been duds.

Sayimg that i still want hom in charge as long as by end of season he can turn that defence around. Even of we miss out on top by just few pojnt i would give him anonther season if he sorts that defence out

Wish we'd got Sanchez as part of the Suarez deal, he's pure quality and coudl have gone into the role Suarez played last season, he has all the same attributes and it wouldn't susprise me if he reached Luis' level in the coming seasons.

I know we offered him more money etc. but he picked Arsenal over us so what could we have done?

I'm remaining pro Mario until I see him play along side Studge in the 442 diamond, if he's stil lstruggling after say 7 or 8 games in that role so having played over 20 games for us I'll be very worried he wil never do it for us.

But remember we have never played well in the openign months of the season under Brendan so I fully expect us to improve come December and more so into January.

Granted these signings have not been great. But how many of these were his first choice options? Think that some of these are down to desperation more than anything. Obviously we don't live in an ideal world but whenever he gets his first choice players they usually come off. Look at Moreno, Coutinho, Sturridge who I think were all first choice.

Don, I think Lovren was his first choice and Brendan pushed for him, hence his almost guaranteed starting position.

Having said that I stil lthink it's way too early to really judge the summers signings.

Rodgers needs to pick a side and stick with it. Stop this chopping and changing. One week Coutinho, other week Lallana, different full backs, midfield changing game by game.

Pick the players on form (i.e Kolo) and stick with them. If they get tired or injured then give someone else a go.

I think BR 's signings haven't been great but sometimes signings don't work for certain players at certain clubs i judge managers on what their reaction is, I believe BR is big enough to not play his own signings and move them on rather than trying to prove a point. I do believe that sometimes you do have to splash the cash on a Di Maria for example rather than buy 2/3 players for 20 million each. There is no guarantee they work but they usually do Di Maria is absolutely quality.

We clearly could have signed a more appropriate striker than Balotelli.

If we couldn't find one then maybe we shouldn't have agreed to sell Suarez so early in the window.

Easy to say in hindsight though.

Also, did we really need Manquillo and Markovic? We have Wisdom and Ibe who are promising youngsters. Would they have done much worse? Could they have done better? Whether Manquillo and Markovic go on to be world beaters doesn't really matter if we have two young English kids who could have developed with us and been better for spirit and continuity.

Irrespective of what you think of individual signings or even the manager, it's clear there are flaws in our whole recruitment system and that's been the case basically since FSG took over.

That's not me saying I am anti FSG as they have done a fair bit of good for the club as a whole, but they need to sort out the recruitment mistakes that are happening too often.

a lot of these players are very young and will need time

Lovren is the only one that has looked really bad as he was expected to be prem proven and make an immediate impact

the others I don't think there is much materially wrong with the prices

posted on 9/11/14

Lallana was over priced but then that's the English tax.

Markovic is also overpriced.

We got Can and Moreno for about as much as Markovic cost. Markovic should have been nearer £10-12m.

The prices don't really matter though. It's all about whether they do well for us or not.

you can't sign an attacking wide player who's 'up and coming' for £10-12mil

the market's moved up recently because of all the new TV cash

What about Markovic?

Supposed to be a 20million pound player. Now I am all for giving new signings time, particularly young ones, but he has shown literally nothing since he has arrived here. Usually you see bits and pieces of talent that just need to be collaborated over time but we haven't even seen that from him. Suso has contributed more by scoring in the cup, and that was his only 20 mins all season ffs

Salah was only £12m wasn't he?

Same sort of bracket, same sort of pedigree as Markovic and only a year or two older.

I don't think the foreign market has moved up, just the domestic market.

Konoplyanka also a similar price.

Lallana was our marquee signing even if we had kept Suarez but has yet been given a run of games to prove his worth. Sitting on the bench two saturdays in a row while the team is losing and not coming on is only going to affect his confidence.

posted on 9/11/14

I agree don't really get the Lallana treatment.

He had a good few weeks, scored his first goal and generally looked like he was settling in nicely.

Now he doesn't even get off the bench in the last two league games as we are losing both.

Strange.

Sanchez was our marquee signing

he told us to stick things in our bum

Salah also told us to stick things in our bums

foreign players are weird like that

Kaiser even before we were thinking about selling Suarez we were bidding for Lallana. In fact i seem to recall that even before our last league game we were taking to Southampton.

Sanchez only came into frame when we were looking swap Suarez as well as cash. Rodgers number 1 target was always Lallana.

"even before we were thinking about selling Suarez we were bidding for Lallana."

how does that make him a marquee signing?

the fact that we investigated Falcao and bid for Sanchez means Lallana wasn't as high as we were looking for.

The problem here is cfc, arsenal and utd. They have more money and 2 of them are in London, plus all 3 bar a few yrs have outperformed us.

In short we are in reality down on the list of elite clubs to play for, we need cl consistently and then buy expensive top quality by out bidding other clubs....that isnt easy.

Being able to live in London, even Manchester, is a big pull for foreign players and their families these days. We offered both player and club financial incentives in the Sanchez deal, it's been made public we bid £42m compared to Arsenal's 35. It's not the only factor but something that definitely hinders us from signing top players.

We need CL for about 5 years straight before the really big players will find us an attractive proposition.

That or massively overpaying on wages and that isn't going to happen.

It's such a big step down from the Real's and Barca's, and that gap is only getting bigger because that's what CL money does, especially with FFP.

The super clubs are only going to get bigger and bigger and we will be left long behind if we don't get the next few years right.

It's a critical time and we will struggle to be more than an also ran at home and abroad if we don't stay at the top table for a bit.

posted on 9/11/14

we've fallen into the 'Spurs trap'

and FFP means you can't do what City and Chelsea did anymore

I still can't believe we spent £20m on Markovic and put Jordan Ibe out on loan.
