Worthy mention goes to Nathaniel Clyne as well.
A few Southampton fans i know say Matt Targett was always better than Shaw in the youth teams and they still expect him to go on to be a top left back too
Shaw is so overated is laughable.
As a LB he is average at best , nothing more nothing less. United got brought to the cleaners by Southampton on this one. Bertrand in all fairness ain't any better.
Nick,
Your just want his transfer value to go up so we can make a profit again next year.
Bertrand is 6 years older than Shaw and not as good as him, a good start this season in a team doing well aside....
So much ignorance, Shaw had one bad game and that was against WBA. He's been top class in our other games. Great LB.
TBH with Shaw I was gutted because I thought he would be going to Chelsea, was delighted when we got him.
Maybe the question should be should Bertrand be in the squad ahead of Baines?
They're both good left backs - I rate them both. Bertrand is an example of why I have sympathy for players like Lukaku and KDB. Even when you have the right attitude and you are patient our club still isn't great for developing young players, and why it is often in their best interests to leave for the good of their career..
Why is Chambers ahead of Clyne in the pecking order?
Why was Phil Jones never picked for England while playing for Blackburn but as soon as he moved to United was in the squad?
Same goes for Cleverley when he was playing well at Wigan?
Did Zaha get a call up while at Palace?
I could go on and on....
I don't think Roy looks any lower than the Top 6 teams

God knows what chambers has done to merit a place, he has been terrible this season and looks poor at RB, should be moved in to cb
He picked Rickie Lambert and Shaw was still at Southampton when he got his original call up. Also in fairness Jones was bought quite young from Blackburn and actually given his debut by Fabio Capello.
Also I am pretty sure Roy gave Jay Rodriguez from Southampton a call up as well, he had a chance at the world cup until he got injured.
Delph has had a game or two recently as well.
So aside from quite a few examples..

As a United fan, I can definitely disagree with this statement. He picked Rooney, Welbeck, Smalling and Jones on a regular basis last season.
didn't think of that one...
Bertrand isn't even the best fullback at Southampton and has been average his whole career up to now. Has he suddenly become a good player? No, he's playing for a team set up in a defensive manner with 2 holding midfielders who defend well as a unit. Is he better than Shaw? No
Bertrand is better than Shaw by some distance. Chelsea actually have the 3 best left backs in the Prem in Azpi Luis and Bertrand.
Bertrand is bang average. What age is he? What has he achieved to date in his career? How'd he do in his previous loan spells? He's playing in a system that covers his weaknesses but he is still being outshone by his opposite full back. Not in Shaw's class
Lol southampton defensive what a mug just by that statement. Just because they have a good defensive record doesn't mean defensive. Bertrand is a great player. I guess you never saw his appearances on his loans or for Chelsea. Just because shaw is at utd he's all of a sudden amazing right? Donut
Bertrand is a great player, really hope we sign him pernamently as £10m is a bargain. Shaw is a fantastic talent and has some great surging runs forward but his delievery isn't good enough...yet. United did overpay but not sure people will think that in 5+ years.
As for us being a defensive team?! Guessing you haven't watched us since we've been back in the Prem

You mean other than being part of CL winning final team?
Shaw is fat and rank average.
I don't think being at United makes Shaw amazing...
Just not being an average player at the age of 19 makes him a far better prospect than Bertrand who has shown very little to date and is 25 years old already...
Prior to this season there were very few calls for Bertrand to get a call up, a couple of good months doesn't move him ahead of younger players who have been playing better than him for sometime...
Injuries aside I would have Gibbs above Bertrand in the pecking order still.
were not talking on prospect though SAF, were talking about this season, and shaw has been injured for ages and been average since coming back. his potential is Unlimited.
And your going on saying shaw has shown more as a 19 year old, that remains to be seen, despite bertrand never starting 20 games a season he has stepped up every time he has played.
Younger players playing better than him for some time? again dont confuse game time for perfomane level.
