He is not better than Rio! To be honest rio was a lazy facker and could have been better if he tried more but talent wise he is actually in a different class to Terry!

We are only comparing the 2 because Terry applied himself better

Yeah, to be fair I'm always trying to explain to my mum I'm a better doctor than my sister just couldn't be bothered with the medical school bit.

I think some people are thinking of Rio in a QPR Shirt

So you're a failure in real life as well as on here then?

By that logic Richard Branson is a failure. We disagree with something regarding football, why would you get personal? Just no need or basis for it.

Never liked him for obvious reasons but Terry would get my vote. They've both been in some great defending units over the years but Terry's leadership I feel gives him the edge over Ferdinand because they're very evenly matched. It's quite ridiculous that England didn't get further in major tournaments when you think of the defensive talents we've had over the years in both these two, Cambell, Neville, Cole etc.

Scoring goals was the problem in fairness, Kav.

True that Darren but it always seemed and still does that England don't play as a team rather 11 individuals. No manager has managed to crack it from Capello to the currently clueless Roy and its a shame because that England team of 06-08 I feel was excellent on paper.

Terry is a warrior at the back. Way better than rio ever was.

Rio's vastly over rated, Vidic made him look a lot better than he was, bit like how JT makes Cahill look good.

JT best by a country mile, Adams 2nd, Campbell 3rd, Rio 4th

Svens probably the best manager we've had over the last 20 years

Yeah that's true. I think from 2002-2006 our defence did well in tournament, though.

We couldn't kill teams off and lacked that bit extra in attack to win the games.

2002 was the most gutting for me. We played for half an hour with an extra man and weren't good enough in attack to even get an equaliser.

I think that was our best chance to win the world cup in a very long time because the competition outside of the Brazil side was pretty average.

Still think Redknapp would have been a great England manager

Complete ballacks.

Ferdinand was a fantastic defender. It was just all the fake gangster bollôcks which got on my tîts.

Yeah Sven got us playing some decent stuff but even then that team should have done far better than 3 QF's they got to despite that Portugal penalty hoodoo. I had a look at that 06 team that started and the whole team were pretty much big names and big players Robinson aside - Neville, Ferdinand, Terry, Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Hargreaves, J. Cole, Becks, Rooney. Realistically none of the current England team would get into that side barring perhaps Sturridge at his best and maybe Walcott but even then not certainties.

As Darren said that side above had it all apart from goals really and Gerrard/Lampard interfering with each other but otherwise its a great side.

He always struggled with long balls and crosses, he was too scared to tackle at times, always injured, wasn't a very tough defender was pretty weak, only things he really had going for him was his pace and playing from the back.

Vidic was the steel + warrior who kept everything together, soon as Ferdinand was without him the defense and him struggled

The best centre back partnerships are the same as Vidic and Ferdinand. One brilliant stopper and the other a good reader of the game who can play out from the back.

Kav H yeah pretty much.

Say what you like about that England team. They were a damn sight better than this current one. Even if they didn't fulfil their potential.

Crouching, that is just complete ballacks that I don't think there's any point discussing football with you if you believe that.

I agree. The 2004 Euros we had a brilliant chance as well.

Lost to Portugal on penalties after the ref disallowed that last minute Campbell header for no reason whatsoever. That was after Rooney went off injured as well

posted on 17/11/14

We'd have probably lost to the Dutch in the semis, to be fair.

That Dutch side was better than the Turkey and Germany teams at the 2002 world cup.
