He can probably see a bit of himself in a competitive youngster losing his cool when the game is getting away from him...

Yes...isn't that part of the whole learning process? And doesn't help our team either. Too much spoon feeding nowadays.....
Why has Wilshere not been charged by the FA.
SO the ref saw it and took no action but that does not mean the FA cannot act.
It was a headbutt, plain for all to see and a lot worse than the reds that Benteke & Ramirez got against Spurs for little more than petulant flicks
Not saying he should have Delta, just that may be why Rooney did it.

No worse than Mason in the Villa game, hope you were calling for him to banned as well...
It wasn't a headbutt, a red card? Most certainly.
It's the responsibility of the captain to try and temper these sort of situations. Fair play, Rooney did what you'd expect any captain to do.
I'd guess there would be less friendliness is it hadn't just been the internationals.
Rooney was just doing what comes natural, he may play for United but he is also probably friends with Wilshere from England so was just trying to defuse the situation.
Surely that's a good thing? It's what I would expect from a captain.
I appreciate what our skipper did, showed class, there's always room for that. Jack is a passionate player, reminds me off young Wayne a bit.
fellaini deserves a mention
he could have made much more of wilshires headbutt
But I did like his "WTF?" look towards the ref.
Fellaini deserves respect for not reacting, although in reality he should've nutted the midget twàt
I think both Rooney and Fellaini should be commended for their sportsmanship, not criticised.
The game needs more of that
I wonder what will actually happen when someone actually ends up taking up Wilshere's offer of a fight it'll be hilarious! watching the little munchkin scrambling for air after a quick dig in the ribs
By Rooney doing this, plaudits to him, by the way, it defused the situation somewhat and kept any other United players from being involved, which could have led to one of us being sent off.
Very often you see the main culprit get off and someone who 'joins in' having an early bath.
Was Wenger questioned about it afterwards? I would have liked to have heard his response - or would it be the usual 'I didn't see it'.
I wonder what the reaction would have been (from both ref and Utd players) if it had been Suarez in the 'Wilshere' role.
He was asked and did say he didn't see it

Just extend your arm and place your hand on his forehead. Keeping him at arms length. He can't hit you then, but you can hit him. Like the good old days of watching Scrappy-Do.
On a more serious note, if Mike Dean hasn't seen it, then the FA surely have to step in and ban Wilshere for violent conduct. But seeing as Dean was right there at the time, he must have seen it, and therefore the question needs to be asked why he took no action against Wilshere other than a telling off. Surely he can't hide behind the excuse of a strong word was all the punishment required?
If that is the case Mike Dean should be sitting out this weekend for failing to apply the rules correctly.
Up most respect for Fellaini's professionalism and the way he conducted himself in that situation . Someone else could've easily done something outrages and lost control !
This player is moving closer to united ' s fans hearts game in game out. ..I see nothing but positive improvement from this player as the season progresses.
Fair play !
I don't want any retrospective punishment. Wilshire nuzzled him more than headbutted him (Nevs on McManaman was a proper one). Good to see a bit of passion out there and no one falling over like they've been shot.
He's injured anyway so it won't matter.
Guarantee if that was fellaini on wilshere he'd have walked

Every match Fellaini ends without getting sent off is a minor miracle in itself, Wilshere notwithstanding.
