I think the team against Basle will be:
Mig
Johnson
Skrtel
Toure
Moreno
Lucas
Allen
Hendo
Gerrard
Sterling
Lambert
So with that in mind, I would start this against Sunderland:
Mig
Manquillo
Skrtel
Lovren
Enrique
Can
Allen
Markovic
Coutinho
Lallana
Borini
This is the game to rest players ahead of Basle and Man Utd.
It's risky but to compete on all fronts over the Xmas period you have to take risks.
Sunderland are hard to beat but don't win very often. I would rather risk a draw in this game and be fresh for Basle, than risk key players that will be needed against Basle.
Borini was on loan last season at Sunderland and was successful there. Would he play well against Sunderland?
Why wouldn't he?
He is a professional.
As long as BR doesn't meddle with the back four I'll be happy. Ship Lovren and that useless lump out in January.

The majority of players don't need rotating but Sunderland home before Basel and United away does give us an opportunity to rotate.
- Think Lambert has been looking tired after 70 mins last two games so maybe we could bring Borini back from cold.
- Enrique for Johnson. Not a negative on Johnson but with his injury record he could do with a rest.
- I'd keep Lallana and save Coutinho for Basel
- Can for Henderson perhaps
We need to keep Skrtel and Kolo partnership going.
I find it really strange how professional footballers like Lambert can be tired when he hardly even played any games this season then you get player like Dirk Kuyt who will be running off his boots till he is 80
I really miss Dirk Kuyt
Lambert has been used to 1 game a week and even at Southampton he was rotated at times. He's gone from 4th choice to main man now. We should not need Lambert against Sunderland.
BTW Seb Coates seemed to have had a shocker against City last night.
If we keep the momentum and not shuffle too much but rotate wisely we will be just fine come January with players such as Suso ,Flanagan and Sturridge returning.
Main goal is to aim as we did last season in the league. 24 Cup games to go
Liverpool playing is like playing in the playground at break or dinner at school against your classmates, (no team will dominate and most games could go either way) where as Chelsea , City, and a few others will be consistant we will be all over the show IMO.
As for our fans calling Gerrard Immense, Awsome etc this is a joke. Leicester are bottom of the league, they are poor, they had 10 men for 30 mins and still caused us problems.
We looked destined to lose at least another 15 games this season in all comps - take your pick as to who will beat us.

"and a few others" begs the question who will be left ? Are you saying most teams in the top half will beat us?

It's a proven fact that 10 men become compact, more resilient and harder to play against.

Its the poorest Utd team in just under 30 years - fact
People throwing flowers at Gerrard for his goal, - i will judge him over the season not 45 mins against bottom of the league
If by some miracle we make 4th or win a cup it will down to Spurs, Utd and others being pathetic

Best but this weekend is sunderland will also be playing their third match and have one less day to prepare and recuperate. Therefore i think we should play our best players try win the game quick and then put the subs on.
I am all for Manquillo and Moreno to start. Sterling, for me, was kicked all over the park and was given very little protection by the ref. That having been said, I think he looks like he needs a rest.
For me, skipper back on the bench, save him for Basle (and ManU). Can is a bolt-on, he's got a great engine in him.
