I think the more pressing concern from the press conference is no injured player will be returning for Newcastle. Smalling is the only one in with a shout. Fletcher in midfield again, oh joy of Christmas.
No I'm not. Just pulling TRC's leg because I know how opposed he is to such a deal.
Mr Mourinho, we do need defenders but we also need top class winger as well.
It's been something we've been lacking for years.
If we buy Bale for the amount touted about, don't get me wrong i will be very happy, but it will also show that Ed Woodward deserves no praise. Me and Robb can go to madrid and bid that amount of money and they will duly accept. They were taken to the cleaners with the fee paid for him. I will not pay more than 70 million quid for Bale. He is not better than Suarez.

Surely the past few years of crazy signings has made all United supporters never say never.
Mr Mourinho
You guys need defenders
Gareth Bale is a left back, he will fit the bill perfectly.
Wouldn't surprise me if this was a Woodward signing. He seems desperate to prove United have money.

Woodward's primary function is to make money, not boast about having it! He is obviously dead keen on signing star players but I guarantee this will be for economic reasons - i.e. for the commercial benefit of the club and/or to increase the value of the club for when the Glazers sell up in the near future.
Woodward's recent statement on this subject was designed to encourage people to buy shares - not ideal timing when you have just finished seventh...unless prospective shareholders are convinced that we are on the up. How else do you convince them other than promising further investment in the team?
That's a good point, redmisty.
Pretty sure he was influential in the Glazer's takeover at United so will be keen to try and make them as much money as possible, even if it's spending silly money on players.
We should try a swap deal involving Januzaj, who will probably end up at Real anyway.
Give 'em Anderson and ten bob...I'm sure they'll jump the chance.
So, bale clearly is going to be our obsession this window.
120 million is the figure in press. Where do they get these numbers....
"Woodward's recent statement on this subject was designed to encourage people to buy shares"
It was designed to appease and attract sponsors rather than sell shares, most of your shares are being bought by the same US hedge funds. The Glazers have got that covered.

It's a nonsense story.
If he was stuggling for form and looking fed up over there then I could see it, people have said that his family can't settle and that he can't speak Spanish.
These aren't reasons to leave a club like Madrid though IMO. The fans have really taken to him and you can tell he loves being there when you see him interviewed and when he's on the pitch. He's also really important to the way they play, it's not like he's in and out of the team.
Also, the story just doesn't make sense, why would they spend so much on him to then let him go? he's one for the top 5 players in the world at the moment, probably top 3 even, why sell him? and who do they bring in to replace him?
The thing is, you never know with Real Madrid. Some of their decisions seem to have no logic.
However, although I don't think we'll be buying Bale, perhaps they think they can make an easy 100m by selling him for 120m and buying Reus for 20m?
They'd be replacing a world class player with a player in the tier below whilst making some flannels. Similar to how Liverpool sold Suarez and bought Lambert.

I know it was, my point is that the same people are buying your shares anyway and the most recent prospectus was purely about Ed Glazer wanting out - it also states none of the money raised will go to the club itself.
You'll buy big because Adidas and Chevrolet will demand it more than the impact on share purchases.
I can see Bale moving on from Real Madrid at some point. Probably not now though. They have a tendency to buy the latest big name as the presidents "shiny new toy" i.e. Rodriguez. They would need a stellar name to replace Bale and i'm not convinced there is one being lined up at the moment. Needs to be a new star from a big tournament.
It's obvious isn't it!
Spread these stories so that Madrid are surrounding Bale and concentrating on making sure he is happy, meanwhile, the Christiano bid is being prepared.....

I don't deny the significance of pressure from sponsors - just pointing out that the recent comments from Woodward to which I referred in my original comment was in the share prospectus which was not aimed at sponsors.
''They'd be replacing a world class player with a player in the tier below whilst making some flannels. Similar to how Liverpool sold Suarez and bought Lambert.''
Reus is a bonafide world class; to state otherwise is somewhat ignorant. Some might even have a case to imply he is better than Bale.
