Terrific post. Unfortunately people find it easier to listen to the media rather than search their own facts up. The people in charge are terribly fecked up
The west and the Muslim worlds interaction can best be described as constantly beating an animal (the ME) with a stick, occasionally it lashes out which only goes to prove we were right to be hitting them all along...
Democracy? Freedom? We couldn't care less, its not that long ago we would happily destroy democratically elected governments in order to install a tyrant more to our liking.
Bar a few countries the Middle East is completely facked and it would have been with or without Western influence.
That said, you are spot on with plenty of the motivation for Western involvement being currupt to the core. The US in particular have used war purely for economic gain under the guise of freedom time and time again.
Basically both sides are caants but without doubt Muslim extremists are worse than the currupt governments of both the ME and the West.
Religion needs to be consigned to the past and viewed as the form of insanity it is.
Taliban, ISIS, Boko, Al Qaeda all follow this hardline Wahabism ideology which originates from Saudi Arabia. Wahabism is the biggest cancer to Islam and has damaged the religion.
The OP makes some good point, but you are missing the vital point. People were killed because of a few pointless, unfunny and distasteful Cartoons. I repeat, Cartoons. That is incredible.
Forget the west and their hypocrisy. It's been going on for centuries and will carry on until the end of time. There is a point, however, when the Arab world needs to look at itself. Is the Religion of Islam so sensitive and so weak as to feel insulted by a bunch of drawings?!
Those killers were set out to get some sort of sick twisted revenge. The only thing they achieved was to bring shame upon a religion and the murder of innocent people, including a Muslim police officer.
I said on another topic...

I can understand a lot of the violence brought onto the West by Muslim extremists (please note the word understand rather than condone) We have for years used the area for our own purposes with blatant disregard for the effect on the people living there... comparatively had very little in the way of death and destruction back for it.
But killing people for a cartoon is never acceptable.... its bad enough when someone enough to hack a company and threaten some cinemas over a movie, but killing people over a cartoon....
Well done Islamic terrorists, you are now officially more ridiculous than the North Korean leader, which takes some doing.
Good points SAF, but I would go further and completely condone any sort of violence, especially by the Muslim/Eastern point of view. Whoever and wherever these religious extremists come from obviously have no knowledge of the teachings of the prophet.
Instead of copying the prophets beard and clothing, perhaps they should also take a note on his mannerisms and actions. This is a man who showed upmost restraint when even his own beloved where being butchered. When untold insults and abuse was thrown at his direction. And here we are in an age when a drawing can provoke murder.
I watched some TV interview on facebook. It was a guy who was against Terrorism but stuck up for the Muslim countries. He argued the point that the Americans seem to go on and on about women rights in Muslim countries which he pointed out is only in extreme countries. Other Muslims countries have women PM's or leaders where as America seem to reject the idea of a women being president. The 2 News broadcasters would not listen and kept spouting off countries where women have no rights. He tried to explain other countries who have women rights in the Muslim world but they did not want to know. He left by saying that the media was biased to Muslim countries and seem to tarnish them all with the same brush......it was a very refreshing watch........
I do not like the terrorist, my dads family are muslim and non treat women as the media portrays. Heck most of the women rule the family.......
I hate when the Americans and other western media seem to portray atrocities done by the Muslims but neglect to show Israels atrocities over palistine.
I remember reading a few months back the terrible strike on Israel that killed a child. It was disgusting, Again on facebook some American stood up and said even though it was disgusting the Israelies have killed more kids. The American public crucified him....
In America through careful manipulation of the media Israel has been painted as the victim whilst Palestine has been painted as the aggressor...
Which is rather ironic when you take everything into account.
I don't know if this says more about me or the world we live in but it takes the most extreme incidents to shock me these days.
The Paris killings didn't even surprise me. Appalling, absolutely. Surprising, not really. The only incident recently that's really shocked me is the Pakistan school killings.
As I said, maybe this says more about me but it is worrying. The vicious cycle appears to be getting increasingly vicious.
You are dead inside!
I tell myself that if I get cut up about stuff that was unconnected to me I would spend all day upset rather than living my own life, it sounds like a good excuse anyway...

Of course they have! Israel and the US are best buds.
I am not aware of any religion which actually suggests it is OK to kill "non believers". Never mind actually encourage it's followers to carry out such barbaric killings in the name of their religion - they are misguided maniacs

That's not entirely true mate. I've put a quote from the Quran below and believe me there will be similar things in plenty of other religious texts.
Religion is a tool to control the masses and sometimes the leaders wanted the their people to be peaceful and basically less trouble for them. Other times they wanted more power so used it as a tool to lead them to war, the best trick was making them happy to die with a reward of heaven - it's almost hilarious that people fall for it, I say almost because it has led religious sheeple to do horrific things when some may have been peaceful without their deluded belief. Of course plenty of these nutters would still be nuts regardless.
The Quran:
Quran (2:191-193) - "And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah [disbelief] is worse than killing...but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until there is no more Fitnah [disbelief and worshipping of others along with Allah] and worship is for Allah alone. But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zalimun (the polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.)" (Translation is from the Noble Quran) The historical context of this passage is not defensive warfare, since Muhammad and his Muslims had just relocated to Medina and were not under attack by their Meccan adversaries. In fact, the verses urge offensive warfare, in that Muslims are to drive Meccans out of their own city (which they later did). The use of the word "persecution" by some Muslim translators is thus disingenuous (the actual Muslim words for persecution - "idtihad" - and oppression - a variation of "z-l-m" - do not appear in the verse). The actual Arabic comes from "fitna" which can mean disbelief, or the disorder that results from unbelief or temptation. Taken as a whole, the context makes clear that violence is being authorized until "religion is for Allah" - ie. unbelievers desist in their unbelief.

They key to understand a problem lies with its underlying causes.
If we just keep concentrating on the result, Islamic terrorism then that achieves nothing.
If we can look at the underlying causes and change the ones we (the West) have power over then we can make a positive impact.
