What do we think of Joel's contract extension? Seems the most surprising aspect of these recent developments.

Probably not because the length of contract dictates the size of transfer fee.

Good
Funny how he refers to himself in the third person.
I'm quite pleased Campbell signed a new deal, gives me hope that Jenkinson is not done at the club either. Squad depth is what it's all about. Do we think Gabriel will be given the number 5 shirt?
Yeah probably be number 5. It's going to be revealed on arsenals Instagram soon.
Is he able to play on the weekend?
Lengths of contracts have nothing to do with whether we keep a player for the long term. Its simply to protect Arsenal if Campbell has a blinder on loan.
As good a signing as we could have hoped for at this time of the year and considering we cant guarantee him first team football
Welcome to Arsenal!
Is he eligible for Europe?
"Is he eligible for Europe?"
He's played in the Europa league, does that rule him out?

yes
I'm not to sure but I think he is
The 24-year-old, who is eligible to play in the Champions League, is expected to join within a day or two, once the work permit gets sported out, in a deal expected to be worth around £14m.
That's from soccerlens.com
Unless the rules have changed, he can play in Europe. You are allowed to sign one player from a Europa League club that will still be able to play in the CL. I remember Real Madrid signed Lassana Diarra and Huntelaar in the same window who both had played in the Europa and were only allowed to register one of them for the CL.
Surely it's a completely different competition, and irrelevant?
He is not cup tied but if we signed another player that has played in the Europa, he will be.
