this has always been my favourite Shankley comment...
"One day in 1959, when Huddersfield were playing Cardiff City, Tom (T.V.) Williams, who was then chairman of Liverpool, and Harry Latham, a director, came down the slope at Leeds Road to see me. Mr Williams said, 'How would you like to manage the best club in the country?' 'Why, is Matt Busby packing it up?' I asked."
Or maybe, just maybe he was giving his opinion as he has done before, without halfwits claiming he's losing the plot!

I have explained my reasoning above, I cannot think of any positives with this outburst...just my opinion mind!
Or maybe, just maybe he was giving his opinion as he has done before, without halfwits claiming he's losing the plot!
---------------
But does he need to use unnecessary language to do so?
™ju§t another ålbooney© (U1565)
Yeah, maybe he was just giving his opinion, but he knows the reaction (or should do) that this will cause, I am not saying he should be charged, but there is a possibility that this may happen...so why do it?

Seriously, I do not see why he feels the need to do this, to me it does not seem a rational or wise decision to publicly criticise the FA at this time, what has happened recently to provoke this? I cannot think of anything that would require this type of outburst...so maybe he is losing it, who knows?
---------------
you're probably right mate
I still think he's miffed about Rooney missing the Semi
The charge was unprecedented so they could have done anything
The fact a ban took in the semi final stunk to high heaven and robbed the paying fans
The FA could have given him a suspended longer ban and no one would have batted an eyelid
They set a percedent too of the charge "swearing on a football pitch" that they didn;t enforce on Kenny Dalglish v Arsenal
(Yes, I know the two incidents were not the same but, as far as the charge stays, technically, they are)
I cannot see any positives in anything you say but you still say it! As you say its your opinion! As it was his! Why does he only have to say something only if it has positives? He was just speaking his mind!

Yes, I noticed that in South Africa last season, Rooney was outstanding and Rio was a rock in defence.

I think he was talking in general terms and I also think you know that
Funny you go on about Rooney but not the City contingen
The WC is old news. Rooney played pants for United too after. He lost form for both club and country, it happens

By the way seeing as you're so worried about swearing I presume you don't go to games or watch tv?

As has been mentioned earlier on this thread, Fergie has a method and a way that has always been a constant in his managerial career; that of 'everybody is against us and we don't care'. He drums it into his players and they respond accordingly. Look at Uniteds role of honours during this period of management. Its quite impressive. Even you ABUs can see that.
So to describe Fergie as an alcoholic (hence B@con Face) who is now going so senile and losing the plot ( when all he is doing is what he has always done, every season especially before a top 4 game smacks of wishful thinking on your behalf.
Ill stick my neck out here and predict that despite our senile manager, United will almost certainly win the PL this year and probably get the the CL final again.
Just a thought

I am not in danger of being banned by the FA though, I get the fact that he was speaking his mind, but surely he knows the possible consequences...
If I publicly criticised my boss, or somebody that had an influence on me I would expect some kind of retribution, therefore I would think twice and probably would not do it...to say that it is fair enough as I was just speaking my mind is missing the point really!

Billy you do have a but so does SAF
I sat and thought about his comments and when you think clearly about it, mentioning what United do for England, in FA terms, isn;t really an arrogant statement
The FA have nothing to do with Manchester United Football club, The Club just happens to enter FA competitions and provide players for Internationals
The FA should really be thankful to clubs like United, Liverpool, Chelsea and City for producing and nurtering talent for the FA's international team
To target United to make an example to other clubs (something SAF believes to be true) is shocking really considering what United have done for England over the years
When i sat and thought about his comments, I actually kinda get it
^^^^^^ should have read Billy you do have a point but so does SAF

i guess it just the man himself
he doesn't suffer fools lighlty and he's just the sorta guy who will always speak his mind
I prefer him that way to be honest
He wouldn;t be SAF if he wasn't controversial from time to time
The game needs characters. Remember when Cloughie walked on the pitch when fans had invaded it and took it on himself to whack one of them himself
It was pretty funny and typical Cloughie
The game would never have been the same without characters like Cloughie, Malcolm Allison, Shanks, SAF and the likes. All legends
would you really change him?
