Appreciate this is derailing the thread, so just going to put my cards on the table here.
A couple of good friends at Uni went to a really bad place with gambling. Racking up debt, lying about their stakes, and more than anything, deluding themselves into forgetting the losses while they celebrated the wins publicly.
They went to a self help group and I went with them on the first trip. Got talking to the people to run it and did some voluntary work myself, partly in letting people talk about it and also donating company time to promoting the cause.
As part of that journey, I got to meet all sorts of people - loads of people affected work in the industry. One guy who ran a bookies became a friend. He’s in a much better place now, and a big part of that was facing up to what he was doing.
It devastated lives and families.
I’m not suggesting you’re in that place, TOOR, but you’re lying about being hugely in profit from accas.
The industry knows what these bets are. It’s not exactly a secret.
On this thread we should all be clear about the two options with gambling - either a bit of fun but will lead to a loss, or seeking out value and genuinely trying to turn a profit.
The latter is rare and difficult.
I think lying to yourself and others about profits from accas just encourages others to believe that this type of gambling pays. It’s irresponsible.
Sorry to bring down the positivity but it’s a subject that I’m passionate about.
