Kind of agree with Peter Reid. He is just lucky he buried it tbh, imagine the fall out if he had missed!?
Gerrard clearly fancies himself as a future pundit too much.
As someone said above, if Ricky Lambert was the one who asked to take the pen from Henderson, nothing would be made of it. I do find it odd that Henderson was the designated penalty taker.

Isn't it amazing how a player like Gerrard who has given so much to the club can be lambasted for telling his own fans the Liverpool way.
He was naive letting it out but he's still a player essentially and would have said the same in the pitch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nonsense. Gerrard was out of order. I don't care what he's done for the club. He's still a player, so he should keep things like that inside the dressing room.
--
That's my point he's still a player and would be jumping up and down on the KOP with his opinions, he's a heart on the sleeve man and we wouldn't have had the times we have seen with him if he was anything different.
Kenny Dalglish when he became manager talked about reserving criticism for the dressing room and he was spot on, these days instant interviews and questions make it hard to do.
Given all that maybe Gerrard should have stayed in the dressing room from the start.
Maybe Brendan told mario once he ce I. He'd take the pen
Anyway needless attention being drawn onto this he scored and was an excellent pen

I don't know why everyone is making such a big deal about this. A little argument about who takes the pen.....who cares. What I like is that we have a number of players now who are willing to stand up and take responsibility. Hendo, Sturridge, Balo, they all wanted it, all wanted to take the responsibility under pressure. i like it. It's probably all been cleared up between the players now. Most important thing was we won.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. And this is what Gerrard should of said. I'm fuming with him

Not buying that. Gerrard has been asked many an awkward question, right after games he's played in. He's cool as a cucumber and very good at not answering them. He knew exactly what he was doing tonight.
Nobody should be fuming with anything.

I'm delighted with things on the pitch. Makes Gerrards comments even worse imo. Why couldn't he of just said these things happen on the pitch, Balo scored, we won and that's all that matters.
He should save his job interviews til he's left the club.

OK then, well if you want to take things in that direction we go back to the way of the old school at Anfield. It's all pre planned on the penalty front to stop silly arguments like we had on the field today. Stevie was honest on that front as a player.
Tell me this if Ballotelli had missed the penalty and Hendo was supposed to take it, what would you be saying then?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
But he didn't miss it, and the fact he's only missed 1 or 2 in his career suggests there was little chance of him missing it. Like I said, I think it could of been a management oversight in only considering starting eleven players for peno's.
And what are you on about with old school? Do you think it's old school to say that sort of thing in front of millions of viewers? I don't think so. Disagreements on the field have always happened, and have always been sorted out in the dressing room, like this would of been tonight.
Gerrard sticking his oar in has only made things worse and guaranteed the negative publicity we'll be getting tomorrow. Well done club captain
Henderson needs to calm down. His shooting technic is strange and usually misses the target by miles. His free kicks target whom to hit in the wall. I'm sure he was going to miss the penalty.
Spot on term. Theres a reason Balotelli has scored 27/29 of his taken penalties - he has a natural knack for remaining cool and finishing them off. Gerrard has stoked the fire with his comments in completely the wrong place on live television in a studio.
What this silly little incidents masked over though was a good European win against very stubborn opposition and it sets us up nicely for the return leg.
I always think in a workplace that as soon as an employee hands their notice in, they should leave immediately. Their mentality and attitude changes, and I think this applies to Stevie. No way would he have stirred things up last year if the situation arose, because he is the club captain. His main job is getting the best from the team, and going on Tele saying Mario disrespected his captain does the opposite of that.
Gerrard sticking his oar in has only made things worse and guaranteed the negative publicity we'll be getting tomorrow. Well done club captain

You're very good at talking but your listening skills need a lot of improvement.
I have already intimated about Kenny's liking for keeping criticism in house, but remember he got caught out by a sharp interviewer during the Suarez rumpus, a heart on the sleeve comment ended up with him looking foolish even with the best if intentions. Stevie has fallen into the same trap.
Basically if you want to run down Gerrard fine, but I think he deserves a bit more respect from Liverpool fans for telling it like it is. Perhaps you would like him to lie for you next time?

What's Dalglish got to do with tonight? This is about Gerrard. Just because he's done so much for the club doesn't give him the right to say and do whatever he wants. Tell me, what good could possibly come from his actions tonight? We're his comments in the best interests of the club? Definitely not.
Gerrard wasn't even cornered into it as you suggest. He couldn't wait to say his piece. For you to suggest he should be above criticism is ridiculous.

Which kind of backs up my point that BR may have overlooked the possibility of Balo being on the pitch in the event of a peno.....
I saw the post-match interview. I was surprised by what he, Gerrard said. Turn the clock back less than a year ago, and I suspect that would have stone-walled the question. Now, demon-happy perhaps, he drives a coach and horses through the (supposed) unity of the squad and manager. Had Kenny still been our manager, I think he would have jumped on StevieG.
Clearly, from his comments, BR had given instructions as to who was to be a penalty taker. And Stevie knew who that was, and I suspect it wasn't Balo. And he should have kept his own counsel, and he didn't.The stramash that took place in the penalty box was a re-enactment of the headless chicken show.
Not good. It will overshadow a good win.

Why wasn't Balotelli made the designated penalty taker after Gerrard to begin with? I don't get that. I wouldn't trust Henderson to take penalties, and given his passive demeanour over the penalty incident I wouldn't trust him as much of a captain either.
