Needs a loan. Hopefully to someone will play him at CB and not RB.
I'd bring in Umtiti from Lyon as 4th choice for next season then let Chambers replace Mertesacker the following season
I agree but think it'll be hard to find a team that trust a youngster at CB thoughout a whole campaign. It'd be okay him playing at CB a lot in cup games and emergency moments but he just needs time in that role.
A loan at a club that are often attacked regularly could destroy him as he'd be put under pressure for large periods.
Dier is an example of how tough it is fir a youngster constantly under pressure and he's a talented defender
Reminds me a little of Jones, in the sense he had a fantastic start to his career, moved to a big club and struggled to really step up.
There is a lot to learn at that level and it's not something that happens over the course of a season, usually more like 3-4. So as fans you have to suffer the teething pain that comes with an inexperienced defender.
But the one thing most of those players listed have in common, is they are really remembered as one man clubs. They spent the tail end of their learning curve at one club and stayed there until they declined /retired.
I think he will do well at CB, hes not super quick but hes quick enough. Should hopefully play in cup games next season or maybe out on loan.
I prefer him to Bellerin TBH. Bellerin constantly gives the ball away and isnt convincing defensively.

Only issue I have with the above is that he hasn't struggled to step up. He's done very well when asked to play, especially at the beginning when he had to fill in. The issues that have come about are more to do with being overplayed and also having a better player step in. But as for joining Arsenal being a struggle to step up, I disagree.
Having said that, yes, he needs time. Probably the 3-4 seasons you mentioned (though I'd be inclined to think 2-3). But as the OP says, as long as it's as a CB rather than RB, he'll come good.
Bellerin has big potential, but yeah he is more of a Dani Alves than a Gary Neville.

I felt he was beginning to make a couple of basic defensive errors at right back and it seemed to really knock his confidence.
In fact, I remember a couple of weeks he seemed a real Bramble style calamity defender. But every young defender will go through this period, even Rio, Terry and Sol.

True. But the category of struggling to step up puts me in mind of players like Santos, Denilson, Gervinho, Ryo, arguably Campbell (the list goes on)... players who, simply were not up to it. Chambers is just young. But he has what it takes.
Absolutely, as I said all players have a tough period but I've no doubt Chambers will be a good player.
I see chambers as the eventual replacement for Per and Gabriel as the long term replacement for Koscielny.
Chambers hasnt even had that tough a time, unfortunately we live in a sensationalist world therefore the Swansea game is literally all he is remembered for. Ive seen Montero destroy several players this season so it was nothing to be ashamed of. Im happy with him and am looking forward to him gradually improving.

To be fair, I remember him getting sent off once where you looked like you'd get a result.
Think he gave a penalty away once too.
Chambers will be an Arsenal CB for years to come, no need to rush the process. He is learning his trade....I know we live in an age where people have no patience but I am happy with his progress.
He could be a starter in the next few seasons and be an Arsenal CB (poss capt) for 10 years.
as I say, no need to rush him.

That was the stoke game, no one covered themselves in glory thtat day.
He does have a lot to learn but hes certainly not as bad as some have made out
Chambers played really well at CB pretty much every game but when he plays RB he just looks a CB playing out of position. He reminds me a lot of Rio, good on the ball, calm and reads the game well. So many young CB's seem to get played RB for some reason and then get criticised even though it's not their position
He's a good player, good tackler, but at times gets baited and is too rash. Also needs to bulk up and become more aggressive.
